I'm not really with you on this, Mike. I think we should all be happy that we are (for the moment) able to get away with copies of these manuals at all. IMO this really helps preserve the cars. When nobody can be found who knows how to fix a 928 and the manual is $400 to $1200 I think the cars are much more likely to be scrapped or underserviced. Big time Kudos to Jim , and it sucks that people are taking advantage of his efforts, but being the first to copy it does not actually make him the owner. And I worry reporting it on ebay could raise the whole thing to the awareness of the acutal copyright owner, which would be a very bad thing (at least if the new Porsche is like the old Porsche).
Maybe Jim should put a decal on his CDs that say something to the effect of "those who approve of courtesty, at least to living scanners, should purchase it and no other". Don't know if he smokes a pipe, though.

I have a terabyte plus of bootleg music, several thousand PDF scans of books & hundreds of downloaded movies. Am I going to to be dammed to hell or something?

Unauthorized copies of unauthorized copies really isn't something to get into a tizzy over, me thinks...

I DID, though, by the Jim set as soon as I bought my S4 & couldn't be happier though...

That's what I did. Print them and put them in a binder and you have yourself a set of manuals. FTW!

$49 is a little steep, Many were selling them on ebay for awhile for $6-$12

Thats part of what I was trying to get across, there is zero need to pay some parasite.

Reporting or flagging them is entirely internal to ebay or craigslist, all it functionally does is pull the current ad, with an email going to the lister. Ads and listers are back at it a few days later, which is why I would like more people to take a few seconds and flag or report them.

There is a HUGE difference between downloading for your own use, and selling CDR's on ebay Once the ads are removed, search engines will start pointing people back to sites that offer real support, like here.

BTW for power mooching I suggest www.astraweb.com 180 GB of high speed downloads for $25.

For what it's worth, the original scanner can always opt for protection, to prevent easy duplication.

I HATE it, but a Maserati Biturbo "CD Compendium" that I bought for 20ish on eBay absolutely will not copy onto a hard drive, nor disc image with the software that I've used to do this sort of stuff with before.

In this case, I even have a password, which is a variation of my name. This password is needed to access the data ONLY off of the CD's themselves.

It pisses me off, and I'd at least like to be able to make a backup in case I damage mine, BUT, it is a deterrent as far as I can see, and I'm not all that bad with "this sort of stuff..."
