Default Bootleg shop manuals on ebay and CL, report them

Copies of the workshop manuals on ebay and Craigslist really irk me, so I am asking everyone to take a moment when you see them and report or flag them.

Ebay
Near the top on the right side listings have a block of information with the sellers name, links to store or list, and just below that a link to "REPORT ITEM". Its now a simplified procedure with drop down choices and the offending listing number already filled in. Select bootlegs and copyrights, then CDR media.

Craigslist
Top right of listing, select flag as PROHIBITED from the drop down menu.

Why?
Sellers are stealing either the work of Jim Morehouse who did all the original scanning and OCR of the text and still offers a CD cheaper than the ebay copies, or the seller has made a copy of the .pdf files that can be downloaded free from a UK site (a bit fuzzy, non text scans of old microfiche manuals).

Bonus fun.
Several of the sellers off counterfeit cdr manuals for a number of products, report them all.

I can see your point but, technically, Jim bootlegged the original manuals too.

Sure, I'm not crying about Porsche's great loss, this is about preserving a valuable resource of our community. Jim put a LOT of effort into scanning and OCRing all the docs, not mention all those who sent manuals etc. to him to scan. The ebay and CL sellers are pure parasites.

I haven't seen anything related to James DVD, but I will cheerfully report or flag it if I do.

You are being one sided here. Two "wrongs" don't make a right. I would stay away from this. It's a copy of a copy.

I've sent Jim a scanned copy of my '85 owner's manual. He was working on putting together all the owner's manuals and other documents into a new CD but I don't know if that one ever materilazied.

You can download them for free and they are pretty easy to find through Google, not sure why anyone would buy one on Craigslist or Ebay.

I'm not claiming any moral high ground, just suggesting something good for the community of 928 owners.

When someone does something that benefits all of us, support them.

When someone does something purely to leach a few bucks out of us, F(orget) them. It takes just a few seconds to report or flag, and makes the world a better place.

I couldn't even imagine how long it took to scan all those manuals. I had kinko's print just one section out for me, and it was two inches thick! Sucks some people bottom feed off others hard work....

There is also a bit torrent.

It may seem odd, but while I tend not to promote the free sources, I don't oppose them. When people get the manuals free, I think it leaves some sense of obligation to the community and often gets paid forward later on. When people pay some parasite on ebay or CL they may think that payment satisfies any obligation, when it does no good whatsoever.

Just joking, hence the smiley... I agree though, I got my Jim Morehouse set, and I appreciate the effort, to put them on disc. I had the original workshop manuals all 9 volumes previously which I sold to a friend.

Thank god for the pdf files. When I first bought my 81 there was so much wrong with it the manuals were a cost I couldn't justify when the money was needed to just get the damn car running.
