Torque tube insulation??? HELP!

Just to be sure...
There is no insulation, foam or otherwise, wrapped around the torque tube. There is a shaped chunk of heavy foam rubber sitting on top of the torque tube - about the size and shape of the old lunchboxes with the thermos in the top - that blocks hot air flow in the area of the shifter.
It is important that this foam chunk be in good shape and in place.
