Default Griggs mustang vs Lock's 2009 GTR race car build

This was a low key event, but it is pretty entertaining to see two WCGT type fast cars out duking it out in the middle of a NASA race. (SP vs GTS challenge, honda cup, and other slower classes)

The GTR is driven by Grand AM driver, Brian Lock, and the Griggs racing Mustang is Darrell Anderson who usually runs with us in SCCA ITE with the turbo NSX.

The porsche cup cars that they run around, are running in GTS-5

GTR is on slicks, and rumored to have about 580hp, weight unknown.
Mustang is on DOT Hoosiers, rumored to have about 650hp at 3000lbs

Enjoy!

It looks like the GTR hits one of the miatas on the 2nd lap? right at the begining of turn 2?....but a 1:52 lap with contact and get passed by the stang at the end of the straight? Damm....

What does the GTR weigh? It has to be HEAVY, since its still got all the dash...

I think it would freak me out to be on the track with such a high speed differential between the cars.

Am I wrong or is it the mustang sure seemed to not be as smooth in the corners as the gtr?

This is probably the primary reason.

Am I wrong or couldn't the GTR possibly run faster if he didn't apex early at half the corners? Seems like the electronic 4wd is kinda' saving his butt a little by holding it in while he hammers the throttle coming out on an already early turn in on quite a few corners.

That Mustang clearly had more HP and was faster. The GTR could only catch him when traffic slowed him down.

Seems like the Mustang has a huge torque advantage. Instant lengths as soon as the turn ends.

Its a HP thing. (but also rear wheel torque based on the higher HP).

the mustang does rev to 8200rpm as does the GTR. mustang has near 550rwhp and so does the GTR. the differece is 500lbs of weight in the GTR.
So, there might be a HP curve shape different, so if the Mustang is flatter like our stroker curves, then it would have more hp post shift, and more torque as well. But either way, the mustang has the HP advantage, even with its less grip due to the DOTs vs the brand new slicks. (the ones that Joe tried out this weekend , pushing his best time down to 1:32

Does the Mustang maintain its IRS or is it a live axle?

the mustangs of that year do not have independent suspension in the rear. It has been modified to have camber though, a griggs trick.

part II it looks like the mustang bumps the side of him.

And did anyone else see what appeared to be a honda civic with its hatch glass open in part II??
