Default 85/86 Fuel Injectors

Just finished up a bunch of work which included new fuel injectors, so I thought I would share what I found.

I was all set to purchase the Ford Motorsports M-9593-A302 fuel injectors from Blue Oval which seems to have the best price. I did a search for them on Google and only found bad mouthing of them on the Ford sites. So after searching a little more for another shop I couldn't find better then the $200 at the Blue Oval shop. I did however find out that the M-9593-A302 has been discontinued and replaced by M-9593-AA302. The new injector is a EV6 body unlike the original EV1, but it does have a EV1 plug on it and is a four pintle design. The EV6 body is thinner and plastic, a theory out there is the thinner plastic body helps to keep the heat away from the fuel vs the fat metal body of the EV1. The new injectors I found at the Roush-Yates shop for $170, I figured this shops name is a little more respected out there. The only issue I found with them is the top of the injector doesn't have the second groove that we use for the retaining clip. I fixed that quickly with the Dremel and they fit perfectly and the clip is keeping them snug in there. So far they are running great..

So in case supplies run out on the old, or the price starts rising there is a alternative.

And for anyone interested a pic of my work these past few weeks (T-Belt, PNsn'r, Cam cover seals, Cam shaft seals, fuel lines, injectors, 55lb Fuel Regulator, vacuum refresh, smog pump removal, intake refresh, plug wires, caps and rotors, timing adjustment with 32v'r, powder coated the intake pieces, updated the EZF'r chip and added the LH2r/55 chip.)

Looks really good, thanks for the info on the injector update. How does it run?

I have the same style of injectors but mine are much higher rate inj and are made by siemens. They are supposed to be the best of the best. I got all 8 of my 62# (75 @ 4 bar) for just under $200 in a store closing on ebay.

It's an old air filter, I saw the top labeling on it, but it fit much better the wrong way, and I couldn't remember which way it was in there before.

I had my intake overhauled over the winter along these lines and now have these same Ford injectors. I encountered all of the same issues mentioned (actually the shop did) but the car runs beautifully with the new injectors. The new AFM, new ISC, replacement vacuum lines, new injectors, powder coating on the intake and general cleanup have made a great improvement.

I have my old Bosch injectors - It will likely be another 24 years before anyone is in there so do the old injectors have core value, or would a rennlister interested in more originality than the replacement part offers be interested? The Bosch injectors definitely need rebuilding/cleaning. Ideas?

The 85/85 OEM injectors were 24lb units and actually could be a necesarry upgrade to a boosted S4, as they only came with 19ld injectors. So why not just keep it, maybe someone might use them.

Ehhhh this is not good! If the filter was originally installed properly and now you inverted it, all the garbage that the filter held got sucked into the engine.

Pull the filter and look at the MAF screen, if you see any large stuff on/in it, the filter went on backwards. I really hope it was aways on backwards as you have a very nice looking engine with all the proper upgrades and maintnace.

There's nothing in the filter, it got a healthy dose of compressed air before it went back in. I flipped it back to normal.

When you pull up the ford racing site you click 'where to buy' and put in your zip code and it pulls up a dealer. The $189 is listed as MSRP, why wouldn't they sell them for that?

They might but being a dealer, there is always the possibility of markup for handling or whatever they call it these days. I've never had a cheap experience walking into a dealer for parts, but who knows The store I posted above is $169 and shipping should be $10 and no tax, so your still under the $189.
