Mods?.....was it approved or did it evaporate?
I have never heard of any one being in moderation here before.
If you want you can email it to me or PM it, and I will post it for you.

I'll think about re-authoring it when I have 30 or minutes to burn.

Thanks for checking back in. Did you go with the HF unit or end up with the BG unit? Did you make your own nozzle? I'm more interested in doing the induction cleaning as I think the 44k in the tank does a pretty good job with the injectors (especially since it is a newer car). I can buy the nozzle for $50 which isn't bad but they want $450 for the canister which seems a bit steep. I was thinking about this unit and adapting the BG nozzle.

Thoughts?

Bought the H-F cannister and use it with a home-made nozzle now. The BG nozzle may be better for fogging, but I don't have one to compare with mine. I'd be willing to invest in part of one in exchangefor use of the cannister if you want to give it a shot. I won't be available for another week or so to do the deed, so you have some time to get the chems and a nozzle. Chems show up on e-bay, or talk to Greg Blown87 and see if he can sell you some from his local distributor.

It shows up now. I have no idea why it was gated on moderation. (Although I suspect it has to do with your low post count.)

In any case, your post was worth the wait. Thanks for it.

Cool.....nice to see it wasn't in vain.

I'll bet the delay concerns that a picture was submitted by a new and unknown poster and they want to make sure some chump doesn't spam the place with ****.

An addition to the post with the GM top clean is that the "italian tune-up" was performed while driving the car rather than sitting in neutral and that we ran them up to the limiter before shifting before slowing and doing it again.

Each time black smoke came out from the carbon leaving but there still is a question as to how long between initial start and high speed running should be done in that waiting too long may lessen the effect of the carbon remover and not waiting long enough would be harmful to a not fully warmed up engine.

LarryM's failure of smog with high NOx is most likely egr system issues.

These cars don't have EGR. At least they don't come with it. I'm not sure what he did to pass, other than take it to a different place to have it tested a few days later. The car was sold last year to an enthusiast in Texas, so we don't have much chance of following the car's situation re: smog here any more.

Does the GM product you show get used similar to the way the BG intake cleaner is used? Fogged in, let it sit for a bit, then drive it hard to blow the junk out? That's kinda what your description sounds like.

And thanks for contributing to this thread and the group!

We can't get seafoam of BG stuff here in oz.

The two products that are widely used are GM Top Engine Cleaner and Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner. The Subaru boxer engines are prone to carbon too.

The Subaru one comes in an Aerosol can.

Here's some local info:

And some info on Subaru's own site:

At lexus, we are only cleaning the valves and piston tops/combustion chamber so it is applied directly with the engine not running.

I'm not sure what gm does with it but the stuff does make a lot of noxious fumes.

What about the 3M 08963 Do-It Yourself Fuel System Tune Up Kit?

It cleans the injectors, TB and IM.
