Maybe MB Quart is cheaper now, I don't know. The set I put in my GTS were old stock DSD 210's that the stereo shop give me a very good deal on. The had "Made in Germany" on the box. The boxes were well worn from being in the stock room for who knows how long, but they sound awesome. A few folks heard them at SITM and all commented on the excellent and clean sound. I also liked them for the stock appearance of the grills and that I had heard them before and knew the sound was excellent.

They are no longer available, but they do turn up on eBay. They look like this:

I need the larger of the two door speakers for my '88 S4 drivers door... Damn thing has broken so when you close the door to hard it is kind of floppy and has to be pushed back in...

Looks like it is going to be a PITA to fix... anyone done this before??? Good write up about it? Where can I get one of those speakers (or whatever the plastic part that holds it in place is anyway..the actual speaker is fine).

For the 4" speakers I used 1 7/8" as the max speaker depth, but it depends on the width of the magnet too because the pocket is curved. I found some Audiobahns that fit and work well.

The MB Quarts I ordered arrived, but they sent the wrong model and when I called, of course the RVF-210's are discontinued and no good explaination why they are still on the web site.

They sent PVI-210's which are 2" deep. I tried holding the 4" speaker in place and the magnet hits the metal behind the speaker when the mounting plate is still 1/4" from the door panel. So these speakers aren't going to work without some sort of spacer.

I want to use the original grills, but I don't really see how to do that. The threaded plate is part of the speaker and in my case it is brittle and cracked so I think if I hacked away at the speaker with a dremel, leaving only the threaded circle, it would just fall apart.

Any ideas?

What company/web site sent you the wrong speaker, IE sent you the PVI-210's instead of the one you requested. The reason I ask is that I was looking at some 4" MB Quarts for my car, '88 928 S4, for the front doors from a web site, http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/

The MB Quart RUA 210 go for a $128, I think they are way too expensive though and have shifted to the idea of decent, inexpensive speakers for replacements. Also with the RUA 210 you have to work out how to install the cross over, redo the wiring, etc. I dont have the "RCA Dog's" ears anymore and just want some decent sound.

For example I have replaced the 6.5" speakers by the rear seats with some Pioneer speakers I bought on sale at Best Buy for $39 this weekend. They sound great and offer a little more detail than the old woofers they replaced.

For the front doors I was looking at the Pioneer 4" coaxial speakers, but the mounting depth is 1.66" top mounted depth, with a wide magnet, I am not sure they would fit.

Then I noticed that the Kenwood 4" speakers were a little more shallower, 1.63" top mounted depth

Has anyone tried to mount either the 4" Pioneer or Kenwood speakers in their doors, IE 928 S4 doors? I would love to be able to use one of them in my car and still work out a way of retaining the stock look of the OEM speaker grills on my car, the screw on-screw off type grill.

Any advise would be welcome.

That's the web site. I posted It earlier with the price but I guess that's against the rules because it was deleted. Don't count on the ones you are looking at being available either.

I must say though, someone did call me and said they would contact MBQ and try to find old stock of the ones I wanted. We' ll see what happens.

Good to know, I will avoid doing business with them in the future. They have serveral web sites, all have the same look and layout, under different names (URLs).

I had ordered some 4" speakers from them in July, the site showed the depth being 1.25" when in fact they were 2". So I returned the speakers and they soaked me for a restocking fee of ~$20+, when it was their fault. No way to run a business.

As far as rules go on this site, I see all these pitched battles about topics and it doesnt seem like anyone is watching.

Hi Joe,
I have fitted the kenwood speakers - they work great.
Kenwood KFC-1051S 10cm Speakers will fit directly and the grills are a pretty close match to the originals

Hi Don,

I went and bought a pair of the Kenwood 3-way, 4-inch speakers (Model KFC-1062S) from Best Buy for $50 and they fit fine in the door of my '88 S4. No problems with the depth.

I disconnected the stock tweeter and left it in place and then wired up the 3-way speaker. I have a Pioneer CD reciever and the new Kenwood speakers sounds great in combination with the 6.5 inch Pioneer speakers in back I installed yesterday.

The screw on Porsche OEM grill wouldnt fit so I used the speaker grills that came with the Kenwood speaker. I want to find some simpler, more cleaner looking mesh grills. Something that looks less "boy racer" and are closer to the look of the stock grills.

Anyone out there with a source of some 4-inch speaker grills or have some laying around, please shoot me a PM or post a message with a link. I looked on Ebay and they come up every now and then for about $10.
