85/86 Euro S 4.7L short block is currently on my engine stand, oil pan is still on, but front is clear and heads are destined for my hybrid motor. No idea on internals, but I think cylinders looked ok, picts if somebody was serious.

81 US 4.5L in parts waiting for me to decide on buying all or just pulling heads and cams.

Location is SoCal about 10 miles east of Disneyland.

I would mayhaps be interested in euro 4.7 shortblock if the price is good.
The one in my project car grenaded; so I planned on putting S4 engine in there - but keeping it original would be nice.
Shipping's gonna be tough tho.

Shipping isn't worth it for a short block. Putting it on a pallet for semi local isn't too bad, but crating gets expensive really fast.

There have to be a lot more short blocks around too, the heads are what typically fail requiring replacement which leaves behind the short block one place or another.

So far one local person interested in the 4.7L, but nothing yet on a 4.5L.

Really, it depends.
For me, there are not much options around here (practically, none), so basically buying from US is the only way I can go.
I already have some people in 'States who can help me ship things overseas, but that's an OT here anyways.

I do understand that selling locally is the best thing for you, so I'm not trying to call dibs on the block.

As for 4.5 engines, demand for those is not too high since they are detuned and therefore last longer. Plus, the non-interference design makes them even more reliable.

Where would I need to get a block to for you in the US?

My own plans are to use a US 85/86 short block whenever possible, so I may end up with more Euro S short blocks.

Springfield, MO.
I'm not in a hurry with that project car either, need to sell the 968 first.

I wonder what a 85/86 4.7 Euro short block with early (78/79) heads/cams/intake would ultimately output? What's the CR you would get from that setup? That is a high compression motor stock isn't it? with the euro intake / TB /exhaust it's 310 horsepower, so with the early US stuff maybe in the 240 neighborhood?

Euro S short block, US 79 top end, my guess 5 hp from the compression increase and 10 hp from 4.5L -> 4.7L, maybe 235, but could be less depending on what the weak link is.

we bored the 4.7 block to 100mm, but its probably as expensive as just buying a 5 liter 85 block from 928intl. never mind

If you have the means, chop it in small pieces and then the scrap yard will take it

Whole automatic transmissions (less torque converter) are commonly sold as scrap, so pretty sure any metal recovery place will take it, just wondering how to get the most "practical" ie not cutting it up, money out of it.

OTOH slicing one up might be educational.

Here in Connecticut ,as of August 3,2009,that would get you $0.29 per pound. That could change in a day or 2 weeks. The scrap market is very volitile.Last year around Feb. that would have been $1.35 per pound. It's all about supply and demand. You would be better off with a table.
