Thank you all for your support, I will let you know about my new 928 next weekend...I just can't wait to see/drive them both, I'm feeling again that rush I experienced at 17 when I bought my first car (a 924). Wish me luck!

Decide if you want a manual or one of those silly automatics.
Then forget that decision and buy the GT

+1. Having driven nice examples of both, you owe it to yourself to drive both, not just for a 5-minute round the block kind of thing, but in the conditions you're going to use it in. I can see the appeal of an auto if you're going to be in stop-start traffic a lot, and it does make for a civilized high speed crusier (yes, yes, I know, you can shift it like a manual, etc...) but the 5-speed is a significantly different animal.
GT vs GTS, the answer is easy- 5-speed GTS with GT cams, drilled pistons and oiling mods....

Does someone have a stock GT torque curve to post? I think it would make an interesting comparison based on some comments.
Others seem to have an issue with a 5 speed GTS and traffic. I honestly find my GTS to be one of the easier manual tranny cars I have driven in traffic and if you don't follow the compression waves in most traffic patterns the GTS can be left in one gear and use the full power range from 1500 rpms up and down with little to no shifting if you like. Even if you are stuck shifting it is nothing like a 911 clutch which can tire you out rather quickly.
This is my Stock GTS before a tuneup. It should be stronger now.

Are you a collector or a driver? If you are the former, go for the GTS, otherwise go for the GT. With the money you save you can have a supercharger installed and then you will be in a whole new league in terms of low-end torque The price for the GT is pretty steep though.

Below is the graph of my '91 GT. Two runs. Max numbers are 292 ft-lbs and 294 rwhp.
Don't let the fact that this chart is from Excel lead you astray. The data behind it is from the data dump of a Dynojet inertial-type, SAE corrected, no smoothing, yada, yada.

I swore one day I would own a GTS. Better or worse, who cares. Those rear quarters are HOT! Tuff call though on the auto vs stick. I prefer a 5 Speed, but have had both. There are worse lots in life then an auto GTS. Special color combination means something too IMHO. The more rare the better....like the last one they ever made (2nd to last one). Anyone know where that one is? I know the last, last one is at Porsche.

Nobody knows for sure where it is now. Rumors have it that it was sold to a collector in France at some point. But the French 928 guys have never seen or heard of it.

GT. Manual trans trumps the GTS exclusivity IMHO.

With a manual GTS you get even more exclusivity, more power/torque and alll the GTS goodies - no worries on thrust bearing and oil control that can be managed (not really even an issue for street driving).
I was not really joking when I said hold out for a manual GTS... If you really want a manual and yearn for a GTS - wait until you can have EXACTLY what you want. The mix of manuals on GTS's is probably much better in Germany/Europe than in USA....
I know there are lots of GT drivers here who think the GT is just fantastic... it is... but have you really ever driven a manual GTS...?
