Just had an alignment done, question on camber
I just had an alignment done on a brand new Hunter alignment machine. The tech couldn't get the camber on my right front past 0 (spec is -.3 to -.7). He said that maybe the car had been in an accident, or maybe I would have to get a special ball joint. Overall the car drives pretty good.
I did put in new shocks and I had the eccentrics off on both sides. Is it possible that I reversed them?

It's possible. Early years did have two different eccentrics, but I'm pretty sure that was only on the aluminum ball joits. IIRC the steel ones used the same eccentric for both camber and caster.

I looked in the shop manual, looks like the eccentrics changed in 86, the 85's and older has 2 different ones on each side. I am not sure if they can be mixed up though as one cam is larger then the other so I couldn't see it fitting properly if they were mixed up.

I don't know the answer to your question but who did the aligment? I'll be swapping in the '86.5 suspension pretty soon and an aligment will be a must.

Here is the alignment sheet. I am going to go back and ask him what he was doing on the left rear, it is worse then when he started LOL! My front toe was crazy bad, that alone makes it drive much nicer.

Well, IMO He should have evened up the rear camber - even if the spec was way off. I can't get my driver side into spec. Not sure if it's the bushing or the eccentric, but I'm leaning toward the eccentric.
He also screwed up the right front camber (gonna understeer in left handers) and I think his info on front toe spec is off (but I think you're ok...)
The one setting he got pretty good is front caster and it's probably the least important (IMO)...

You're hands on enough, you should be able to do your own alignment.

The right front is the one he said he couldn't get any negative camber at all for some reason.

Has he ever done a 928 before?
There is no "special ball joint" and you can't confuse the eccentrics. You can turn them all the way one way when you really wanted to turn them the other way.
Looks like he made toe in the rear left by using the camber eccentric only. There's another adjuster at the front of the lower arm.

Looks like my manual is out of date. Andrew was right I do have steel ball joints.
I took a picture under the car to see what he did. Looks like if he moves the inner eccentric 180 he could still get the caster and get me more camber.

I just stopped in and talked to the tech that worked on my car. He said he used both adjusters to set the rear toe and camber. When he moved the right rear into spec, the best he could get on the left rear was -2.0. I thought each adjustment was independent and one wouldn't affect the other, or does the Weissach axle have something to do with it?
I asked him why he just didn't equal it out, and his feeling one the subject was why wear both tires when you can set one correctly?. I think I will just get it equaled out, the way it is I now would have to rotate the tires to the one side anyway so might as well do them both equally.
I am still kind of baffled about the front, I have seen posts here with guys having large negative camber and I can only get mine to 0 with it completely maxed out.
