Bill,

I think there is some misunderstanding about different color loctite. I could be wrong here but as I was taught Blue is for bolts that will eventually be removed. Red is for things like studs that no one plans on removing. Yes heat releases red loctite. We used red when putting head stud inserts into VW cases. The idea is the insert stays in the block and the stud can be later removed. On the 85-86 heads red might be appropriate on the stand off spacers for the cam covers. That is if you can get them out without breaking them.

Green as I understand it is to lock bearings into place. It is designed to have shear strength. On the torque tube the place Green might be appropriate is on the splines of the shaft. It might also be appropriate when installing a pilot bearing.

Of course I could be wrong on all of this.

Dan: I have always understood red and blue Loctite the way you wrote. Thanks for the clarification on green. I have not put any Loctite anywhere around this clamp. I may have cleaned the shaft and clamp with brake cleaner last time I loosened the clamp, but that's all.

Bill,

I use blue on almost everything. it is probably a religion. But then some of the nuts on the 928 are use once. I have found blue loctite is good save on these. There is no way I would put a suspension together without it.

Someone suggested paint on bolts after they have been torqued. I instituted this at the shop, but it is probably a good idea as my short term memory fades.
