Thaaaaat's ... disappointing Malcolm .... we were hoping for a replacement engine ... perhaps some JB Weld ... or very worst case, tap to several sizes bigger Imperial and instal a nice fat bolt. Oh well ... can't win 'em all!!
... see? It was - in the end - just an engine. YOU WIN

BTW............major points if you know/guess why only this bolt broke at this location...........see previous pic for big clue.

Correct H...........the water bridge had a small leak that every once in a while would leak into the block cavitys.............the ones either side of the bridge. It so happens the bolt that broke screws into the block exiting at the RH cavity.
Now once I finish cleaning the old gasket residue I'll install the new WP with new bolts; what do I put on the bolts to prevent future siezures?
Does the WP gasket go on dry?

Hey Malcolm!
Great work with the bolt.
Did my WP/TB job a few eeks ago, we used Loctite Anti-seize liberally applied, and then the bolts torqued to spec, and although the instructions that came with the pump said to install dry, I couldn't over ride my previous experience, and used a VERY thin coat of the Loctite Blue gasket stuff. Well over 1,500 miles now and no issues.
Best,
Rob.

Make that "W" eeks ago.
And, it's just that after prepping the block surface for the new pump, I have this (Maybe irrational fear) of missing a small score on the aluminium surface that'll allow a seep.

One last point...............I did NOT replace the WP when I replaced the timing belt and installed the Porkensioner 2 years ago......why?............there was no issues with leaks or bearing.
Why did I replace it now...........because I read all the stories of WP failures and the catastrophic effects that as I was doing a whole bunch of PM I'd do the WP also.
Is there anything wrong with the old Porsche WP.............NO.
Much food for thought/discussion in the ongoing 928 WP saga.

I got it directly from Greg Brown to install the WP gasket dry. I'd assume anti-sleeze on the WP bolts... But which type? The copper or the silver graphite?
