This is really a non-issue thread and belongs in OT.
Just a little fun! A little levity

The 928 is the only Porsche model the clunker law is going to impact, putting the discussion in OT would only open the flood gates on what a good thing it is to clear them off the road. Like it or not, as written this program targets the 928.

I think its also the first shoe to drop, the carrot, next comes the stick, such as a federal annual gas guzzler tax.

Obama wants my 928?

Sweet!!! How cool would that be? "Obama's doing burnouts in my old Porsche around the Washington mall".

The damage is already done here in the UK. Wonder where you're government got the idea from eh?

Say goodbye to lots of interesting, repairable old cars whose owners in many cases don't realise how much they're worth, say hello to a plethora of Korean ****boxes bought on yet more finance that benefit your economy in no way whatsoever.

Seriously, it seems like there are suddenly almost as many Kias on the roads now as there are Fords and Vauxhalls (GM). At the start of the year I'd say they'd be lucky if there were a quarter of the number.

"Obama's doing burnouts in my old Porsche around the Washington mall".
He and ALGORE would still have there's, that's for sure. Several states have tried to pass 'old car' laws, Florida being the last I heard off several years ago. While aimed at smoking clunkers, I'm sure, it leaves a lot open to interpretation as to what is a clunker. You get stopped for speeding or don't pass emissions, and guess what?!!!!!!

Years ago, Car and Driver did an article on a guy who invented a device that could instantly detect "gross polluters" (cars that constantly belched out a mess of smoke) on a highway. They postulated that the coppers could set this thing up anywhere and offer the driver a brand-new Cadillac in exchange for the noxious vehicle on the spot, and after eliminating 200-300 (IIRC) of the worst gross polluters, the program would cost like 1/1000th of whatever CARB was planning on doing at the time to reduce the same amount of emissions, and in a fraction of the time, too. As long as the trade-in wasn't mandatory, it seemed like a pretty good idea to me.
