When you guys mention PBR, to which compound are you referring?

Metal Master Semi-Metalic?
Ultimate Ceramic?
Deluxe?

I'm hoping to keep brake dust and rotor wear to a minimum.

Thanks

BTW, if it matters in your replies, they will be coupled with cross-drilled, slotted rotors.

WOW $35 per axle is CHEAP...... I had good luck with textars (OEM) but they are around $100 per axle & I was using them for the street and occasional DE.....

Thanks Brian. Even with the OEM being non ceramic, you report low level of dust?

Any others have a recommendation that won't break the bank? Hawks are a tad too pricey as there's surely got to be an alternative with decent results.

Thanks guys.

As Mark said, I think Repco, PBR and Axxis are all the same...

And I (and most here I think) would be referring to Metal Masters.

Thanks Rick. They are considerably cheaper than the Hawks. Rotors are pricey; especially the fronts so I want to keep the rotors happy by not chewing them to bits with my selection while keeping the wheels somewhat clean. I don't track the car and drive spiritedly only on occasion.

Nicholas, I agree, rotors are pricey. I'm running the Metal Masters on my "newish" cross drilled rotors and am very happy with them. Don't even remember for sure which variety, but I think PBR's, although like I mentioned, I think they're all the same.

I've used them for Auto-X and DE's as well without any issues FWIW...

Not only here under the 928 forum, but also in the 944 forum there seems to be a consensus on the PBR products (Ceramic and Metal Masters) for the features that best suit my requirements of decent braking, low dust, and no noise at a savings that is hard to ignore.

I've literally spent 2 hrs scouring over the threads and have come to this conclusion after reading enough to send me to sleep dreaming about brake pads

So, let me put this demon to rest for those who are wandering down the same path: If you require low dust, acceptable stopping bite for street use, do not track the car much, and minimal noise; all while saving money over Hawks, and the like ...........PBR/Axxis Ceramic or Metal Masters is the product which comes most recommended here on Rennlist.

There, I've said it. Now I can put this Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder body to rest for the night. Thanks for confirming it for me guys. I guess I just needed to hear it a couple more times.

Does anybody know what "TexTar T4045 FF"s are? I bought a set (fron only) for the GTS from one of our vendors, still on the shelf. If they came in a box, I must have tossed it, just that lettering on the back. It would be nice to know where they fit in the scheme before I install them.
[edit: I found them listed in a catalog as one of several OEMs to Porsche.]

If you're looking for a bargain, I just ordered Axxis deluxe front and rear pads for my 79 for $30 total.

+another one for Metalmasters by whatever brand. I have tracked my car with them and had no problems- they are easy on the rotors and very little dust/noise. Plus, they seem to last forever...

I ordered the PBR Deluxe Advanced and they came in today. After getting my old pads off I realized there is a difference to the back of the pads. The new replacements are flat (save for the recesses) while the old ones have elevated pieces that fit into the caliper pistons.

Can anyone explain what I should do with the new ones? Can my new ones be installed without these retainers (what I call 'em)? Should I have ordered a different part number? The website said this was the pad I needed for my car.

Thanks for any help you guys can be.

If you would have taken a look at the WSM, you would have noticed... Those are the damping plates that are attached to the pads. You could have ordered those too. They have a self adhesive backing, so reuse not recommended.

Maybe some have installed the pads without damping plates?
