Just came across the window sticker from a 928 that my dad purchased back in 1982. It's a 1982 928 with Competition Pkg, metallic brown, 5 speed. Sold by Anderson Behl Porsche Audi, Santa Clara, Ca. Last 6 of the VIN 821922.
If you want it, you're the owner of this car, and can provide me with the entire VIN, I'll mail it to you - or can send you a scanned image.
The price? Just pass along any pics of the car and stories you may have.
Maybe check on 928Registry.org to see if it is listed with contact info for the owner...? Any 928 with a comp package would likely be collectable and hopefully preserved.
BTW anyone can provide the rest of the vin, the last 4 digits are the unique serial number, the rest is pretty much the same for all of that model year except for maybe a single check digit.
A scanned image might be useful for many people who could adapt it for there own cars information.

I have 820922 on a Beige 81 - Also a CA car purchased in 82 :-)
Not sure if there is anything like a 'National DMV' site to run VINs... but you could try the various state DMVs starting with California and radiating outward?
Probably wouldn't cost any money -just time- until you found a match... then, you may have to pay for the info. Add whatever fee to the cost of the document.
Just for records sake, you could use the information on the window sticker and create the record for the Registry site... if anyone is looking for that VIN they can then find it there. Just a thought...
Good Luck and I'm glad to see an effort to reunite the two!
With a big file, which would be nice to start from for projects, try one of the free image or file sharing sites. Photobucket and rapidshare are two that come to mind, then just link in a post here.
Appreciate everyone's suggestions and info. I spoke to the owner of the service station - explained the situation and left my contact info. He'll be on the look out for the car and owner. The car is not showing in their system as a new computer was installed at the beginning of the year.
