Default Radiator Temperature Sender Sensor function

I think the temp. sensor that screws into the radiator (lower front corner facing the car) sends a signal to the fan controller which controls which fans are on and at what speeds.

Does the LH or any other brain (controller) on the car use info from this sender.

In other words, if in theory I were to controll my fans from some other means, would I still need this sender connected?

Thanks

You do know that there is a Fan Control unit where the Radio Amp was installed in the OB's? not sure about which temp sender is used for the speed control part.

MY87 does have that unit, which I really would no longer be used.

If you bypass eliminate the fan brain be sure you have cooling for the A/C condensor to keep it happy. I do not think that rad sensor tallks to anything but the fan controller.

Thanks Jim,

I plan on the pusher fan, (infront of the Rad) always coming on with the A/C regardless of Temp..

To add a little more info. , I am currently using the 2nd fan circuit (the A/C one) to power the pusher fan in front of the Rad. The problem is that using that circuit it never seems to deliver a full 12 volts to the fan. After looking at the electrical sheets, if I am reading it correctly that "control" circuit never delivers more that 9 volts.

Some time back I had also read a post on that here.

So in the prusuit of the additional cooling I am wanting to supply that fan with a full 12v and doing away with the "fan controller" .

And use that port on the Rad. for an after market sender, linked to the A/C.

You are correct about the reduced voltage...
