Default Norcal928 Funride & Canepa Design Tour - July 18

This Saturday, Norcal928 will have a funride followed by a tour of Canepa Design, an automobile customization business that has been directly involved in Porsche 959 "federalization" and many other unique auto-related projects. Some of you attended a tour we hosted about 2 years ago. Canepa has opened new facilities and made significant changes since then that should provide a new experience for those who attended the previous tour. Plus, it's a good chance to give your car some needed exercise and chat with your Norcal928 buddies.

We will ride through the the Santa Cruz mountains from San Jose, have lunch and then tour Canepa at 2PM for a couple of hours. Here are the details.

WHEN: Saturday July 18th
MEET LOCATION: EITHER - (See Google Map link near end of this message)
-- Parking lot on Olsen Drive at the end of Santana Row, in San Jose, before 9:30
-- Starbucks at 12960 Saratoga Sunnyvale Rd, Saratoga at 10 am
LUNCH: Maya Restaurant, 3115 Scotts Valley Dr, Scotts Valley at 12:30pm
TOUR: Canepa Design, 4900 Scotts Valley Dr, Scotts Valley at 2:00pm

So, to explain, you can join other Norcal928'ers at Santana Row where there is an informal Euro car meet every Saturday starting at about 8:30 or meet us later at the Starbucks in Saratoga. We will depart the Santana Row location at about 9:30 to head for the Starbucks, then depart from the Starbucks at about 10:15. If you can't find me and others at Santana Row, just head to the Starbucks at about 9:30.

Our drive, routed by Jim Morton, will take us through the Santa Cruz mountains to Scotts Valley. We will have lunch at Maya Restaurant at about 12:30 then head to Canepa Design for a tour beginning at 2:00pm.

Here is a link to a Google Map of the drive: (Give it some time to load the details of the route)

Bill
Sounds good! Count myself and my Father in. He has been buggin me about this since last May at the vintage auto races at Infineon.
Canepa was racing a '70 Javelin and put on a great race to the finish.
We will meet up at the Starbucks at around 9:30.
See you there

Will miss, the heat stressed the car and sounds broke with random grinding

That was lots of fun! I got to ride with Bill, and feel more g-forces than I feel comfortable generating when I drive. And I got to drive a Ferrari for a short distance.

Apart from that, we were a small but nice group, had the pleasure of meeting the Carters from Texas, and enjoyed a tour through the Canepa museum and "car clinic".

That was a great day! Thanks, Bill and Jim, for putting this on!

Yes, good fun run. A little warm, too much traffic... but good folks, lunch and some great sights at Canepa.

Thanks again to Bill who put this all together !

It was a great day! Thanks Bill and Jim
Met up at Santana row where there was a mix of a few Ferrari's one Lambo and a few other exocits. A good start to the day.
Jim lead us on a great run over Hwy. 9 / Hwy. 236 through Big Basin Redwoods State Park. Lots of twisties where Jim quickly sets the pace and becomes a dot on the horizon while the rest of us try to catch up. It is always fun being behind Bill Ball and exercising the right foot gas/brake pedal through the G's.
Great to meet the Carters at Lunch and experience the fun they are having with Their (Joe's) Supercharged GTS. Now that's a road trip worth doing.
The tour at Canepadesign www.canepa.com was fantastic, could have spent the whole day there unbelievable at what they have and what they do. They had one of only 4 factory '68 911R's fully restored not to mention 4 959's. As soon as you are done looking at those you turn around and your jaw drops at something else equally impressive.
Was also good to meet up with Charley B. at Canepa where he was comming back from showing his T-bird at a car show.
From there it was time to head back home where we ran into alot of interesting cars leaving the car show.
Yes it was a good day to be out in a 928.
