Rob,
When I was looking at carpet for the 79. I went to a local shop here who installed GAHH carpet. She let me take home small pieces of samples that she had and even let me bring home the board (actual hard copy version of the online colors with real sliverknit carpet on it) to compare colors.
There are several different color blues and you want to make sure you get the right one.

+1 on this suggestion. Rob Budd can also supply the carpet to you since I believe he is a distributor

Followup-

I sent a strip of carpet to Rob Budd, who made up a new Marine Blue rear deck carpet- It is an absolutely perfect match, right down to the binding around the perimeter. The only problem is that his piece is perfect, and the rest of the carpet is dirty. Gotta do something about that....

Thanks again, Rob!

So I gotta ask, does anyone besides me think that the silverknit carpet looks crappy and does not wear well? I've had a chance to look at a lot of 928's in the past year (OCIC in particular) and all of the cars, unless they had brand new carpet kits in them. had this nappy looking stuff in them. Is it me, or couldn't there be a better looking alternative that wears/looks better?

The sliverknit does sort of take on that disheveled mouse fur kind of look after a while (as is more plainly clear to me in my car today....). My '95 BMW had much shorter pile velour (like the Mercedes, though dunno for sure) that was near bulletproof, though not nearly as luxurious feeling as the sliverknit.

Dan, maybe you can go with some Wilton wool carpeting to go with your Connolly hide seats, your walnut dash and your Grey Poupon?

Discussions on carpet comparison- looks like Rob has the Wilton carpet (see post #5: )
