No core return?

What will we ever do for springs? (Read: "what are my spring options?")

Roger:

I just called you because I'm coincidentally just in the market for shocks. Will these work on my 84? I had a buddy raise the car up in his shop tonight and confirm that our shocks are shot. Call me or reply - I'll keep tabs on this thread.

Tim,
You are on the list for the shocks.
Perfect for your car.
Roger

I personally like the Eibach springs they allow you to lower the car and increase the spring rate at the same time , both make it handle better !

One questions, the WSM shows 86.5 onward with gas Boge shocks require 340 mm springs (brown markings). The earlier cars with oil Boges have 350 mm springs. Will the gas shocks work OK with the 350 mm springs? Any issues with ride height?

JB,
Does Eibach make a fixed spring rate for the 928? It is the progressive action of the eibachs that I cannot stand.

Colin--

I spoke with the local Eibach guys when I first got my 928, and they only made the progressive-rate springs. They are a great combination with the softer (but still stiffer than normal) coils backed up by the much stiffer rest of the spring. The design was coordinated with Kim Crumb, one of the top 928 racers at the time. I hink that Kim probably still has his GT in the garage in Minnesota with the 2/6 rod bearing failure. Kim was the PCA tech contact for the 928 modles prior to John V. He's written more than a few great features on 928 suspension for PCA pubs. I'd have no problems at all using the Eibach springs if they were available in stock lengths. I need close to normal ride height to get into my driveway.

Me neither. On my 89 they had an absolutely annoying "jiggly" ride quality for everyday street driving.

The Eibachs are progressive rate only. The old very brown 1980 just happens to have a set on it and for my purposes , hours and hours on the Streets of Willow and the big track , they work just fine ! I also drive it to the track and use it to haul building supplies etc. like a nice new front door for the house ! I just remove the rear hatch and strap things to the rollbar......

dr bob,
Many people make height raisers for lower springs, you could use them with a set of these.
They would only be needed on the front as the rears would have enough adjustment to get them up.

As well I know that weltmiester made a set of springs for the 928.
And Bill I am 99% sure that they were not progressive. I may even know where a set is that could be had reasonably. I will find out and PM you about it.

Progressive springs are OK for very lax drivers. Once you start pushing alittle on a bumpy road and the rate changes mid corner can make for some interesting times which can be not so fun. Though no 928 owner would ever push that hard on the street right, right?

I do wish you lived closer so we could take a few laps at the Streets of Willow many others have done so and lax was not the term that they used. Exlax possibly

JB,

you shouldnt be driving like that on the public roads!

At the track with a smoother surface and less potholes it is a different story and you will have far less issues.

I could have a few people vouch for not so lax up here. One guy (who is a crazy helicopter pilot) I swore when he was going to stand up half the seat was going to come with him from puckering.
The moment that really got him was when I reversed course in a heartbeat from sliding the car around on a narrow road.
Look on his face was priceless.....
