Best role speed for an 86.5 auto
I of course would be driving on a closed course, my car is bone stock and an automatic, I do however have a kick down bypass switch, I was wondering where in first I should start (rpm) I would be running against a 94 Rustang Gt with 3.73s and an exhaust.

One of the reasons I didn't keep my 944T at the end of lease was a car load of kids in a cheap Mustang that stayed right with me on a 35 to 85 mph run.
3.73 gears only help off the line, by 25 mph they are a liability forcing him to shift sooner. If you want an edge figure out what his shift points and yours are and make the starting speed maybe 5 mph or so below his next shift point, but where you can still grab the best gear for your rpm.
Is the exhaust on the Mustang just a cat back or is it an X pipe?
Standing start with decent tires and that 3.73 will kick your but in an AT 85 928 thats stock.

it is an x pipe, i know in my old 82 auto 35 was its spot but the 85 really goes at aney speed, besides a standing start, i think i can get him when he is on the bottom of 3rd

Speaking from experience here. If it's a 5-speed you might be in trouble. Either that, or my buddies car was one of those "Factory Freaks", and I do think it was. But, I did get together with another friends car at one point, from a dig (stopped), and he had NO chance. His car was an auto, and I left him like my buddies 5-speed car would. So, you might be close to even.
If I remember right, my '85 Auto was pretty damn responsive around 25-30. Off the line though, it was not really anything to write home about.
Forgot to mention, the auto car had full exhaust, not just a catback. Also a CAI and TB. My other friends car had the "driver mod" as it was a stick, and a catback. The auto car really needed a converter, and gears.
