Tampa928s just replaced the seats in his 85 Euro w/ a nother model year seats and he had to slot the hole in the rail to get t hem to fit. I'm not sure which year seats they were. Maybe PM him for details.

Bulldog,
I know of a local guy who has a blue interior who might be interested in anything extra you have.

Soontobered-hey shoot him this thread and have him contact me, I don't want to end up tossing this stuff out. I have the center console for the rear that's in good shape and some blue floor mats too.

Danglerb-i don't have any of the rails but I may have some extra parts for the 85 if you need. I tore down one of the 85 seats to see if I could get the cushions mounted on the 83 seat frame. I used the drivers seat that was in the poorer shape.

I'm assuming the first pic is of the 85 seat bottom but mine don't have any rails under the motors. The motors look different also. They aren't bolt driven, they have cables running to each of them from the motors. The motor mounts are loose right now, I assume because there are no rails. Ill be in the garage all night tonight and I'll take pics of everything and put them up. Can i use photobucket to post images?

As stated earlier, essentially any model Porsche seat can be made to fit. I have 996 seats in mine and the passenger side seat was an easy install as far as hooking up the power goes; the driver side still isn't hooked up because of the memory module.

Any image hosting site should work, but you may need to try a couple of the different link options.

While those are the seats that were in my 85 when I bought it, doesn't mean Porsche put them there, could be any, but I think they are correct.

Yes, first pict is bottom of the 85 seats.

I think of everything below the cushions as "the rail", even though on the 85 that includes motors etc. If you look on the second picture, 79 manual seats, you can see its a very basic, two piece track. top part bolts to the seat, and bottom part to the floor in the car, so I can't guess what it is you don't have.

Once you post some picts I am sure we can sort it out.

I bought the Gaah set from 928 Specialist in 2002 and installed them myself. Since you've done it before on your other cars, you won't be in for any surprises. Other than good (strong) glue, hog-rings and pliers and some foam, you'd be good to go. Me personally, 7 years later and after seeing Paul's incredible work, I'd go to him.

Good luck! / Bruce

Ok, taking a shot at posting some images. The first one is the bottom of the 85 seat and the second one is the rail system from my 83.

Just throwing this out there... Generic leather race seats will bolt right in. Lots of choices in black/yellow. I got beige and they look and feel great. A pair cost 1/4 of what recovering 1 seat would have. Plus they let you use a 4 or 5 point harness, which we all knows gets you the chicks.

I'm very happy with mine as they are a little wider than stock seats which help my fat **** fit in the seat.

Bulldog,

if the plan is to mate the parts in your 2 pictures, you are in for a haul. They are incompatible.
The '85 is the basic same frame as any 911/944/968/928 up to 1994. You are missing the bottom section of the frame that both secures the elevator motors and holds the sliders.

You second picture is the elevator portion of an early seat. It does not work on the same principle as the later seats.

yeah, i figured i was out of luck using the 85 seats on the 83 rails. i just do not like the old style seat backs. I'm going to try and mod the seat backs (cushion and cover) on to the frame of the 83 seats and then get some slip ons to cover them until I can afford customs.

If that doesn't work I'll just go with some racing seats.

DO NOT let Paul work on your seats....

If you do then you will have to get a COMPLETE interior from him because his work is SO STUNNING it will make the rest of the car inadequate and look like total crap! In fact you will probably have to have the car painted!

Heck he did some UNREAL interior work on my '92 and within a week I had to find someone to run in to me so I could get the thing repainted so the exterior could keep up with the interior! LOL!

On a SERIOUS note, if you want THE BEST CUSTOM interior for your car then you need to have Paul do it. The problem you will have is that EVERYONE wants Paul's work and thus you might have to find a temporary work around while you wait for a bit in the long line of fans of his work! There is NOTHING like having a DPC (Design Paul Champagne) interior in your 928! They look great, they FEEL GREAT, they make YOU look better, and they make you love your car more... Trust me on this!

I have not told Paul this yet, but we are systematically working through ALL of my 928's so I can love being in ALL of them as much as I love being in the two GTS's he has done for me!

Oh, as for cost I think I STOLE my stuff from him! For all the work that Paul puts in to his designs and both he and Linda put in to the execution of that design...he should be charging about 3X what he does! No it is not cheap, but having the best NEVER IS! Here is an example...you can get a Porsche factory luggage cover for about $1000, you can get a pretty cheap but effective aftermarket one for $200 or something like that I think, or for $400 you can get one that is custom designed and built with the finest leathers money can buy... ummmm, that is a NO BRAINER RIGHT THERE FOLKS!

I think you can swap just the top (back) between the seats, at least that is in my own plans to swap seat backs off my 84 onto the 79 manual seats that are in my 85.

It shouldn't be hard to find some replacement "rails" that are complete off a junk seat. Pretty sure I have seen exactly those parts on ebay for like $75.
