Default Great Article

Hope this isn't an enzo, but my Aug 09 Hemmings Sports and Exotics came in the mail today, and one of the feature articles accross the top of the cover is "1980s Porsche Shootout: is the 928 a REAL Porsche?"
I won't spoil the ending for you, but suffice it to say that I dropped what I was doing and read the article, and was quite happy with the analysis. That mag often has something on our cars in it.
The comparo was with a '79 5spd 928 and an 80 911 special Weissach edition of that model. If I could figure out how to copy and post it, I would. Go get it and enjoy, and add it to your lit collectio.

There is another article in this same edition about a Volkswagon model that Ferdinand Porsche designed (not the Beetle - he designed many VW models back in the day besides the Beetle), and there was a reference to the engine design as being a precursor to the 928 engine design configuration. The car itself was never built, but one iteration of it looked like a more robust 356. There are always historical articles in this magazine, and frequently they involve stories of Porsche.

BTW, has anyone on the 911 board picked this up? Would love to hear those guys chime in on the article.

That magazine has become one of my favorite automotive mags, well worth the subscription price. With the exception of Peter Egan's column in R&T, for me, the thrill is more or less gone with the mainstream auto mags. However, Hemmings has a nice product with Sports and Exotics (though most of it isn't really exotic, which makes it fun).

Anybody know of a news stand or bookstore in SoCal that carries Hemmings Sports and Exotics?

I've seen it at Barnes and Noble, at South Coast Plaza, Spectrum, and Fashion Island.

Porsche family thought the 928 was good enough to bear their name. Ferry drove one. Werk I built a 4 door version for Ferry's 80th birthday. Case closed. Only a clueless snob would denounce the 928 as a non-Porsche. Take THIS from this long time 911 owner.

I enjoyed reading this article, Ed - THANKS for sharing! And thank you Cretinx for posting the link!

Cool that the 928s are still talked about....
