Blew a head gasket which cylinder? Now with Pics
#32
He definitely breached something. I was following behind him and my windshield got covered in a mist of antifreeze when it happened. Thought it was rain, but smearing it with the wipers said different. What's odd is that I saw him take off, saw it spew some oil/fuel smoke and then all of a sudden there was a bunch of white smoke that didn't let up even after he let up. I also didn't think that he was pulling that hard...My first thoughts were..Oh he brought the slug of a stock 85/86 and not the supercharged one...
I can't see much difference on the plugs, and while the car did smoke and smell like antifreeze, there wasn't any mixing in either the oil or the antifreeze when we stopped to check. His car also started up fine afterwards (still smoking).
Didn't Page auto go through this whole engine top to bottom...seems weird that the gasket would let go so soon..?.
Shane ..is the WOT switch working?...perhaps it didn't go to the WOT map and was trying to keep a/f at 14ish?

At first it didn't go to WOT till I mashed real hard on the pedal then she launched. THe smoke coming in throught he vent had my attention more than anything, having already had one burn...
Page went as far as the cam cover gaskets, anymore work would have post poned the April delivery date.

If it makes you feel any better, I think the head gasket blew on my mothers Jaguar today.
So guess what my next project is since I finished my fathers engine out major this weel.....
As Shane said there wasn't time. A head gasket job would have meant a valve job / seals / guides etc...
If the speculation of fuel starvation caused the failure, a new gasket would not have lasted much longer anyway.
Mark mentioned spark plugs, I doubt this had anything to do with the failure it's still worth a look for long term use.
I'm falling out of love with the Bosch plugs after a lot of testing with multiple sets and heat ranges. I'm now using the same NGK's Luke uses with his cars and Todd has in his 928. I'm running one range hotter than Todd. They are dirt cheap (about the same as Bosch).
I'll get you the number later, just returned home from Murphy's, need sleep
EDIT - no head gasket for the Jag, expansion tank sprung a leak. So yesterday the "Murf Crew" worked on a British car, Itilian car, few German cars, and we all touched a Honda to round out the weekend.
