Default Blew a head gasket which cylinder? Now with Pics

Yesterday on the way to Louie's fun drive, my supershark failed a head gasket, and started sending anti-freeze into the exhaust.

Any guesses on which Cylinder was the culprit?

[EDIT] Only plugs that look extra suspicious was 4 and 8. 4 smelt like coolant and was wet, 8 had what looks like a slight cam cover leak on the plug seal. I'll find out for sure when I get the engine out and the heads off.

It will be interesting to see the condition of the heads.

We're you pushing it hard when it blew?

That would be my guess as well.

I'll pull the plugs tomorrow and see which it was.

I was traveling in a group of four sharks, we were doing between 80-90 similated mph, when I shifted to third and similated hitting the WOT switch and similated a quick run to 6k rpms, at which point fake smoke came out of my center vents, which I thought might be the breather dumping oil onto exhaust headers.

I then backed out of said similation and the fake smoke went away, leaving me sure of my diagnosis. Till the unsimilated WSP pulled us over because some concerned travelers called in wildly fast and dangerous Porsches causing mayhem on the highway.

The WSP asked us to follow him while he hunted down the rest of our shark shiver but like good 928ers we stopped right there to investigate the white smoke coming out of my exhaust. Tom and I then went to a 76 service station to see if it was terminal or not...

Well let us know which cylinder it is!

I will be back mid July, if you havent gotten in there yet.
BTW, if you decide to have the heads redone, let me know as I would be interested to know if you need new guide (I am betting yes) and how much they end up charging.

Sorry to hear of the mechanical failure, hopefully its only a gasket.
I would also drain the block and add some marvel mystery oil to all of the cylinders so the rings dont start rusting in the bores

Cylinder 6....that's one of my my 8 unlucky numbers. Sorry to hear the bad news, Shane.

You PW928ers on your road tours have a long history w/the WSP....remember that cool pic of the whole line of the guys waiting for your turn to get your papers? They gotta get money from somehere to pay for more stoplight cameras.

The no knock sensor part would be equal to all cylinders. It certainly wouldn't make any one cylinder more prone to knock than the others. And I seriously doubt #8 would get any less fuel than the others on that side since they're batch fired and all have the same pressure. I know you;re thinking one of the cylinders leaned out and detonated.

I don't think anyone has fitted 8 WBO2 sensors to an S3 motor to see if there is one cylinder more prone to leaning out (i.e. detonation) than the others. Remember this thread? https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ne-spacer.html

I honestly think that the issue is the 23~24 year-old head gasket giving up the ghost. Who knows what kind of coolant has been run in that motor, how often it's been changed, etc. While I see my cyl #7 choice is winning the pole, it's probably just a random occurrence.

C'mon Shane... pull the plugs already!

#8. Because it's the last to get coolant. We've had a couple go in the same spot....
