If I stayed the night and came out in the morning and my car was hit by sprinkler overspray I would have said to myself... damn, should have thought of that potential and parked my car in a safer spot.

Knowing the whole story........ I'd be pissed off too.

Really, it's water, they have that in Germany, they have it here in Chicago. It falls regularly from the sky through polllutants and it gets on cars. Deal with it yourself. If your car is that precious why even bring itout where photons will strike it and degrade it.

At 140 on the main straight at Road America my car gets dirt on it, oil on it, rubber on it. I wipe it off and don't call on track to wash my car. I did have the pleasure of seeing a car dealer give a driving experience to some new 911 guys. They wore matching drivers suits and acted like wet Californians. What an embarassment to the rest of us commoners running common cars instead of GT3's. I heard one guy laughing at an old Mustang. Pompous jerk didn't realize it was an old Trans AM car that beat his time by several seconds.

It's crap like this that makes me embarassed to own a Porsche sometimes. Thanks to all 928 people on this list who know the purpose of a car. Something to drive, not extend our mahood.

Glad you won your DE.
It's good I'm not in Chicago. Your recycled hard rainwater is nasty.

I have had similar things happen. You did the right thing by bringing it up to the present management, however, trying to get resolution from that person is sort of like bitching to the pilot about the turbulence that caused the flight attendent to spill water on you. Not going to get much satisfaction there. Write a letter to the owner of the Hotel, the VP of Marketing for Sheraton Corp and enjoy the comped nights/discounts they'll throw your way.

Am I an expert at resolving hotel customer complaint issues? ...... uh no, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express

I suspect the owner of the hotel (4 Point Sheraton in Ventura) had a buddy post the original poll to see what sort of reception there would be to 'restitution.' As such, the wording from the OP is rather misleading. It was not an overnight event. These cars were parked in a parking lot from about noon to 3 P.M. Do you cover your car in such a scenario? Particularly if it's sunny out and no chance of rain?

I can deal with rain water,--my car's been rained on a bunch in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and all over the US, but this stuff is plain nasty, and then allowed to bake in.

The owner has apparently now stated that the sprinklers were, in fact, misdirected, and they should have never come on in the afternoon.

Many on the East coast aren't familiar with how nasty reclaimed water is since it isn't widely used. Basically the water coming from the sewage treatment plant gets redirected to golf courses and other commercial buildings where it is used for irrigation. It's a great idea and helps conserve water but it is also full of calcium (as noted) and a few other minerals used in the pH balancing and clarification. This water is far worse than anything anyone would experience from rain water.

I would be pissed too but I wouldn't put much effort into chasing management for a correction.

I won't comment on those that think these cars should only be driven and not enjoyed for their beauty.

Is it true that if a 928 gets wet it shrinks and becomes a 924?

It is good to now have more information on this as is it now makes more sense.
On a personal note, if this happened to my car I would be pissed. I drive my car hard as it was meant to be driven from Porsche. I also do all of my own work which is alot of blood sweat and sometimes tears. And I also take the time to wax and detail it because I enjoy a nice looking ride.
So if after parking my car in a area that I thought was safe and came out to this, yes I would be very pissed off. Not to mention the response that you got from management.
On a business note.
You do not respond to a customer in this manner. The Hotel depends on repeat business and word of mouth. You simply acknowledge the complaint, take down the proper information from the guest, look into it and if you do not have a response you state that your superior is currently investigating an out come.
I think what people have come to accept these days is that it is alright to treat people/customers with total disregard.
I would follow through with this just for this very reason. In other words, treat others as you would like to be treated.

Welcome to Rennlist, you will fit right in. Er...sort of.

Now the more important question, do you use a 2 stroke or 4 stroke to dry off the car?

Not true. In fact if a 928 drives into the ocean it doesn't get wet....instead all the creatures in the ocean grow *********

after seeing the photo's and reading about the nature of the sewage/water I have to say you guys were right to be pissed off.

Anybody that travels to a car show and drives their car, will carry a small detailing kit with them to clean the car before the show. If these guys didn't and their cars got spotted up by the sprinkler, then they have learned a lesson.

Okay, this is what I would do. First I would bring it up to the hotel management and take lots of pictures and names. Then, I would move on...try to clean it myself or spend a little money to have it cleaned.
If that fails and it looks like its going to be a permanent problem.....thats when I will get angry and consider legal measures because now it becomes a big ticket item.
Sorry about the Santa Barbara pooop...its Ventura pooop....not much better IMHO.

It wasn't a car show. It was merely a luncheon/brunch celebrating 45 years of the PCA region. The cars were not intended to be shown. per se.

Ironically, many cars were parked against a red curb and in their fire lane. Those of us who parked legally in the parking lot, were the ones affected.
