Hotel sprinkler got my car wet
Ok this didn't happen to me but this is a local issue at the moment with the Porsche club. The sprinklers got about 5 cars wet during the night and the owners are not happy and want something done about it. Should the hotel:

Mark,
The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. We had gone to Palm Springs for a PCA event, and I had the car Detailed the day before the drive. We stayed at a nice hotel, and on the following morning, the sprinklers had left water spots on the car I complained to the hotel, but they just said, "So bad so sad" It wasn't that important to me to raise a big stink

You missed the fourth option, "Tell them to suck it up and move on." If you're that **** about your car you watch for hazards such as sprinklers, likely spots for birds to hang out, other cars, etc.

I wouldn't expect a hotel to change it's irrigation schedules on my behalf. I'm pretty careful to try and park where I suspect there are not any sprinklers nearby. However, I'm still at the mercy of any wind blown spray.
Now, if they have a sprinkler head that's WAY out of alignment, I could see where someone might have a beef...

IMHO sprinklers are usually the last thing a hotel customer will be considering,
That said the hotel should have some culpability for the sprinklers spraying customer cars.
Just what you can work out will depend on the level of customer service that you receieve.
I would suggest that Hotel chain upper Managnment (head office)be made aware of this

Well I have to say when I travel to Fla for vacation, I make sure I am not anywhere near the sprinklers. The water there is very salty and can streak and damage a vehicle very quickly. I have gotten out in the past and my windows and paint were trashed with milky nasty water. So I do understand that, but I doubt the hotel will care or offer up anything other than sorry.

The cars are outside, obviously. Isn't there a chance of rain? Or even dew? That'll mess up the car. Spouting off, taking attitude and looking for "satisfaction" at every injustice, or a freebie.

Did the cars melt or something? Were the owners mad because they always wash their cars with nothing but genuine Porsche factory bottled car washing water that's imported from Germany, and domestic water touching them has ruined their value forever?

not sure if it was concours or not...but.. Since this stuff is so important to some of these folks, did anyone have the foresight in the PCA to notify the hotel in order to adjust the sprinker schedule or bother to ask if there was irrigation near the parking area?
Did anyone call a ahead to have trees removed so wind blown sap wouldnt drop on near by cars?
In a nutshell the hotel IMHO has no responsibility for anything that occured.
then again maybe Joe should hand wash the cars for them
wasnt his property was it?

I wish my life was so perfect that all I had to worry about was my car getting wet.
I really think that some Porsche folks are borderline OCD.
I am a little OCD about some things, but my car getting wet is not one of them.

Hotel should offer vouchers to the local car wash. No worries about those being used.
I'm pretty careful where I park and drive, yet still manage to get sprayed by a sprinjler every once in a while. It happens. That's what the instant-detail products are for.
Make a stink, lose your welcome, lose your preferred rate. Most places are pretty much park-at-your-own-risk anyway. The car owners' best leverage is the wallet anyway. Remind the hotel that the PCA event is regularly scheduled at their property. Remind them that PCA is a pretty big org and that good news like this travels fast in our close-knit community. If it were my hotel, I'd offer to have a mobile detail service come by and remove the water spots. DI water and a soft cloth will do it if the car was well waxed. Otherwise a little instant spray detailer will usually do the trick, unless it's Florida or Arizona sun-concentrated lake water used for irrigation.
Making a stink just for the sake of making a stink is probably unproductive. There are more important things to worry about. When's lunch....

I'd tell them to go F themselves. Anyone with priorities so out of whack doesn't deserve such a fine automobile.
What would they say if the morning dew had left some droplets? Seriously people... take your meds.
