Guys,

I have read a dozen or so posts on rear suspension, though some are a little cryptic to me. Today I moved the 84S to 18" rims with low profile tires, though it is brushing the inside of the weel well lip at the top when i hit bad road.

That said, I see one of two options... the first is to raise the rear of the car about an inch or an inch and a half to be safe. How exactly is this done (where are the settings) and do i need a special tool? Option 2 is that I try to bend up the inside lip and curl it from being horizonal to vertical, thus moving it out of the way and gaining maybe an inch. Worried I will screw up the outside fender though.

As it stands, I have about 1/8" right now between the tire and the inside end of the lip and I am sure that even filling the gas tank will casue this to hit. The front end is all good.

So close, though so far!

base ball bat and roll the car very carefully to bend that lip under. that steel is pretty soft and you can get a lot of room there just by being very careful with a bat roll. Do you have a picture?

you need a baseball bat roll. (wood) You would be using the neck, and a little higher of the baseball bat for this job.

Did you remove the rear spacers? What size tire did you go with? I just put 265/35zr18 on my rear no problem by removing the rear spacer. I have about a pinkys width of room which is just right

His 84 may not have had spacers but worth looking.....

If you do have a spacer and remove it you will need to either use open steel lug nuts or cut the wheel studs down.

Worked great on my 84 to fold over the inner lip. Slight flare also. There is no plastic inner liner on the 84 to interfere.

Grab the rear fender with both hands above the tire. Use controlled force and pull slightly outward on the fender. You may need to do this a couple of times.

This should solve your issue since the rear tire is barely rubbing.

This is what I had to do and it worked well. I am running 285/30/18 rears.

I raised the rear suspension about an inch today, so we will see how that works. Raining today so can't take it out for a bounce. If it is still rubbing with full tank, I will give the fenders a pull.

buy an old kid wood bat from the used sporting good store and roll the fender out slightly. it will just give you the room you are lookingfor at any ride height

Rolling can look bad and can crack the paint. That's a pretty car and I'm guessing not a track car.

What are the offsets of those wheels and the tire sizes? You should consider getting wheels that fit. Less costly than messing up your car in the long run.
