Damn dude. Thats horrible. I've been on fire before and I don't wish it on anyone, not even my worst enemy. It had to be thick with smoke in there. I cought a 928 seat on fire the other day while torching on a scrap car and the little bit of smoke from that was choking me. I can't imagine being inside a closed car wwith that smoke. I'm really glad to hear that you're OK. I know where theres a 5 speed S4 for sale pretty cheap. PM me for info.

Joey the most important thing is that you're ok. Hopefully the burns will heal quickly and you can forget about it.

Please keep us posted if discover the cause, it can make a big difference in keeping more of these cars safely on the road and can potentially save lives too.

Good luck with hunting down another car and or rebuilding this one.

Glad to know your ok Joey, very sorry about the car.
I would venture the fire marshall, not being a 928 owner, has no idea that the transmission cooling lines run straight over the cats. This isn't common in any other car I know of.

Let me know if it isn't salvagable - I haven't any "spare" S4's, but I might have something around to help you out.

Just a little note for anyone living near water - down here in the Keys we keep a small $5 glass punch / seat belt cutter on our keychains - It comes off with a yank, and breaks windows easy. If the car goes in the water, electric windows don't work, and you cannot get the door open!

Good heavens...You probably know how the Apollo-1 crew felt.

The fire started possibly from an over heated resistor pack in rear A/C? Or from leaky A/T lines that burnt up through the floor?

All of us A/T drivers, with a false sense of security after replacing fuel lines should consider that until we replace aging A/T line rubber, our loved-ones may be sitting in a bomb some day.

Glad to know that the person in that car knew how to find a way out.

Dude! I'm so sorry to hear about this. Glad you're okay.

This description sure sounds like a coil went out and the car was running on 4-cylinders. The other 4 were pumping raw gas into the cats... then they caught fire.

Glad we have you here to tell the tale. Others have not been as fortunate in car fires. Often in panic it is near impossible to make logical decisions, especially when you are being burned. Way to keep your head and progress through the different options to get out.

Oh no! That sounds like a terrible experience!

I'm glad you got out before it was too late, and hope you will heal quickly.
