Whaaaaaaaat? The car is 22 years old with suspect maintenance. Sidehatch, if you are worried about your safety and that of others who may ride in your car, there are three obvios options to me......

1) Do not drive your car until you have performed the many PM items that are listed throughout this forum that can absolutely minimize your risk

2) Drain the car of all fluids, remove the battery and display it only as art

3) Sell the car because you have lost faith in it and cannot maintain it in a way to make it safe and reliable

Option 3, if that becomes your choice, represents an interesting situation. If you are ethical and really believe a 928 is inhererntly dangerous just how to you disclose the reason for selling it? "This car is known fire hazard and death trap", "I wouldn't drive this car for fear of it bursting into flames and killing me and anyone else in the car", "These cars are seriously prone to spontaneously burst into flames".... "I cannot in all honesty say I have properly maintained this car"

Of course, as all used vehicles have the same "as is" disclaimer, your situation is now different. You have publicly stated in this forum all of the above about how dangerous these cars and your desire to sell yours. I would think the new owner, should you not disclose the reason for selling it, would actually have a legitimate reason to sue you.

So my recommendation is to just turn your car over to one of the fine dismantlers who are sponsors here on Rennlist. They will surely know what to do to make sure others are kept safe from the imminent fiery harm that awaits all 928 owners.

Friend of mine was driving his Volvo (reputedly a safe car, right), when the fuel line burst where it was routed through the passenger compartment (now that is a design flaw). The interior of the car was filled with fuel vapor and when he pulled over and opened the door the dome light set if off. Major burns on hands and face. And worse, no sister taking him to the strip club.

No Kidding!

Joey -don't listen to Softpatch on this one (or probably anything else with a comment like his) as he apparently has other 7 year olds to consult with before dosing out his "McDonald's coffee is hot?" wisdom.

Truth be told, if there was any real reason these cars would be fire hazards (outside of negligent care), then there would have been a recall and all problems would have been properly remedied.

This is a lesson for anyone that owns an older car... whether a Porsche or my '71 Charger R/T (I can sit 6 comfortably inside & another 4 in my trunk & I can sit on the fenders and hang my legs inside the engine compartment while working on it- low tech!)

Always remember that nerd computer phrase: "Garbage In, Garbage Out" (GIGO)

These cars are ticking timebombs with respect to fire unless refurbished. Same with 951's. And 944's. Thanks to the internet enthusiast groups we have, we are forewarned.

Putting my personal finances aside and sidehatch wanting to be my legal consul to sue Porsche I need some serious advice on what parts can be sold from the car. Any advice on how to remove the ngine and see if its still good??

First items off the car are these

A perfect immaculate rear flip-up spoiler when I say perfect I mean perfect its very soft and black any offers on that post here or PM

Two taillights with perfect harnesses driver's side has a small crack

Rear S4 Bumper cover good condition

I will be taking of the AT LSD Transmission and taking pictures I will be selling most of this through ebay or you can like I said post offers or send me pms,

Thanks

I've worked for Volvo for 15 years & I know of no Volvo that has ever had the fuel line routed through the passenger compartment. Enlighten me.

To discuss the topic of potential fire hazards a little further, what is the weak spot of the brake system? I understand the soft lines from the tranny run close to the cats, and that fuel lines and power steering soft lines more or less run in the vicinity of the exhaust manifolds. The brake system only has soft lines under the wheel arches, right, so where is the fire hazard?
