I personally feel that it is important to protect our community and one thing to protect it from people who take advantage of our hospitality and good wishes, even if there is no money involved.
Your first posts on the 928 forum were about how you have brake problems, and then you posted about how you wrecked while driving with malfunctioning brakes (but the story was that you were cut off and your rim exploded but eventually you owned up to the brake problems.) Fast forward to now and your car burned up due to a fire near the brake MC.
Then there are credibility issues with the story about the fire and absurd whoppers about you having a deposit on a 996 turbo and then deciding on a Cayman... c'mon sorry your car burned up but you can't come in here and tell outrageous lies without ruffling a few feathers. It's insulting to this community to come in here and BS and also expect sympathy and advice.
Also since your problems seem to get worse it seems reasonable to me to express concern about how you will fare with the next 160mph capable supercar and if a passenger or other motorists will start to suffer for the lack of care and attention.
People who are saying "Do it! Get another 928! The dream is not over!" should consider maybe he'd be better off in a newer, lower performance, properly maintained car with more safety features given how things have gone so far.
Again, sorry about the fire but it's clear you did not learn much from crashing due to malfunctioning brakes. The next big problem you had, you put the hammer down until the car burned up. What's going to be next?
-Joel.

Joey,
Don't cut your nose off....
Try the 'ignore' feature for those whos' posts you don't want to see. I think I have two or three folks on my ignore list, and I honestly don't remember who they are since their posts never show up for me anymore. Relative Rennlist bliss is but a few mouseclicks away. Use the force!

My ignore list is at 20 people atm not only the posts ,but the PMs I received...anyone who has a problem with me can tell me at OCIC I haven't offended anyone, but apparently I'm a broke kid who tries to live a lavish lifestyle and tries to keep up with Jones. I don't ask for money from anyone not even my parents or anything I try to do things on my own I hate riding on people's coattails ,but apparently I'm still a leech
Hopefully you guys forgive me for killing a "great" machine I'm sorry I'm not a millionaire and I'm not an expert mechanic I am 19 and in college. Sorry I failed your 928 owner expectations

I don't think it's fair to judge Joey for how he took care of his car.
He had a fire which toasted the car. The only thing important here is Joey survived the fire.
Now he's out a 928, and has to lick his wounds. Whatever or however he chooses to do this is no real business of anyone here. So he talks about cars he's considering... realistic or not, he's back to building his dream. So some of what he write doesn't register with your realistic minds, or doesn' fit in your "shoes". Well guess what?... your opinion may not be necessary here.
Give the dude a chance to wrap his head around this profound experience. This is a time to help a brother out.
I don't remember hearing this kind of BS when Socalgirl toasted her 928. Did she not deserve to own another 928? Is she any different than Joey? I guess so, because she got a 928 virtually handed to her, and help and support from many great people.

Jason, you are correct. This doesn't need to degrade to a shouting match. Rennlist has always been praised to me by others (especially the 928 forum) as owners helping owners with things most Porsche dealerships haven't a clue about. I stood in defense of a fellow 928 owner that had probably the worst day in his life happen to him... against what I took to be a self-righteous, non-empathetic know-it-all that just happens to have a 928.
I don't know you or Joey. I do know, I was 19 once; in college; and didn't know much about the car I was driving. Perhaps you were as well. Youth is filled with grand ideas and plans and when reality and adulthood set in -things tend to change. Hell, when I was 15 years old I had an idea that would have made me a multi-millionaire -if only I had a little encouragement and advice.
Charley, Joel, you Jason & others probably have valid points, as 'cons' to this Pro vs. Con environment... just as David, DR, dr bob & others have valid points on the 'pro' side. Ultimately, this is a lesson that Joey experienced that hopefully, nobody else ever has to experience.
**If the lesson is that these are old cars and will never be new again -fine.
**If the lesson is that improper or untimely maintenance can result in tragedy -fine.
**If the lesson is that successful ownership of a 928 requires skill, money and respect in the car -fine.
However, if the lesson is that if you talk out your *** and say dumb things -people will remember and call you out on it at the most inopportune time instead of offering helpful assistance... then too, we can all learn from this. But it is really not necessary.
Joey, I wish you the best in your 928 pursuits; your educational goals; your continued use of Rennlist & your life in general... but I am going to cease & desist this pissing match of trying to keep this a 'helpful' thread. Take care!

Joey, the way I see it you have two choices. #1 You can take your ball and go home. #2 (Which I prefer) You can man up do what you say your going to do and create a well maintained and safe 928. I understand that things go wrong to good people. The problem comes when we don't try and help ourselves avoid known mechanical problems. Also just so you know I'm not wealthy either. I work hard and do ok. I too struggle sometimes with the costs of maintaining the 928 as well as all my other cars. When I bought the 928 I knew less than nothing about them. Only thing I new was I wanted one. I bought a piece of crap off eBay and have been working on it regularly ever since. In all honesty it should have been parted out but all I knew was I had a 928. My recommendation to you is if you want to drive a 928 then start doing your own maintenance on it. If you have to take it in to the shop for everything quite frankly these cars aren't worth the cost in labor. In my opinion you must know these cars. The 928 will strand you if you look at it funny or call it by a different name. You will not get pity from me! What you will get is the best advice I can give from what I’ve learned. If you lived close enough I’d even help you work on your car. I don’t dislike you one bit and look forward to meeting you at the OCIC. Just remember that in this tight knit community trust and honesty goes a long way. We’re all willing to help keep these great cars on the road to the best of our ability.

Joey, don't let the BS get you down.
I've talked with Joey on several occations and find him to be a pretty stand up guy. I have to agree with what Jim said above.

Jim just so you know I didn't contibute or agree with that either. In my opinion if SoCal wasn't a girl she wouldn't have gotten all the handouts. Again this car is not the type of car you can just drive and forget about. Some cars you can just drive until they completely fall apart. This one doesn't just fall apart it kills you if your not paying attention.

I did as most as I could on my car I changed the belts, by myself the only time I took it to the shop was for my A/C, check for thrust bearing failure and for the suspension issues from the crash last year.
The problem with my old 928 was that once something was fixed something else would arise the PO f*cked beyond comprehension there was cables going left and right from all kinds of nonsense. I was naive I thought I could fix it like Sean said we had considered shipping it to him and having them look iit over. With this new 928 I will take it to Sean and Roger to give it a good check over I'm not carless I have an 09 Altima as well I think I posted pictures of it before on here well I will go over this 928 as much to make sure something like this will not happen again.
Also, I don't understand why it is the understood knowledge that I kept driving the car even though it was damaged I posted early in the thread that I had just fueled up I was driving and that's when it started acting up. I pulled in to the first open space I could find was I supposed to burn on the side of the road with a full gas tank??? I found the quickest spot I could far from people broke out and ran and called 911. What was the appropriate thing to do I want to know for next time...

That's a harsh statement. Any car can have failures in fuel lines, brake lines, trans lines, etc. with equally dire consequences. The 928 is an extremely safe car and can be driven into the ground just like any other. The idea that a 928 will bite more than another car is just wrong. More expensive to maintain yes, faster than most yes, but still the same general possible issues.
