Question Question for the leather restoration experts.

I have read many of the threads but would like an opinion from some of the experts.

This is on a 951, but I feel you 928 guys have more expertise in this area with all that cool leather in your cars. (and this forum probably gets more traffic for the topic)

I picked up this 951 that had lived in the AZ and NM desert its whole life. Working on bringing the car back to life.

I tried normal leather cleaners and this is what it still looks like.

Can this (the tan specifically) be brought back to life? What products?

Or should I just search for a new dash?

Is the lower gray panel leather? It looks like it from the pics...

Assumign the lower panel is leather....it looks like a goner to me.....its possible a quality remoisturizing + redye will improve things...but it still won't be 100%

Cole,

if the center armrest is any indication, you need new leather.
On the dash, if that discoloration remained after the cleaning, you could always try a re-dye, but I suspect the leather must be dried up and brittle. Not much to do in that case.
Try some Leatherique Rejuvinator and if the leather softens up enough, re-color.
Ultimate solution is of course to re-cover.

Yeah. The bottom of the dash is a tan/grey leather.

You can see that the top of each area is super sun burnt.

If it's gone that's fine. I can reupolster or find another one. Just don't want to toss it if there was an economical way to do it first. (obviously there is some coin to be spent on interior parts)

Agree with others that if the leather is dry/brittle you will need to replace it. Otherwise you can follow Pauls advice regarding the Leatherique.

The only spot that seemed brittle was the console lid.

The rest is actually kinda soft to the touch.

Here's a writeup I did on using SEM vinyl paint on my old BMW. Might be a cost-effective option. Not sure if SEM has a perfect match for Porsche vinyl colors but it's worth a shot.

Well, $7.50 later.

Thought I would try the Duplicolor vinyl stuff first. (since it is at the store down the street).

Keep in mind the rest of the interior is not done, or even fully assembled yet. But you get the idea. (dash and console only at this point)

BEFORE!!

AFTER.
