I don't think the Porsche part of it should be too in your face. I think what Panerai did on their Ferrari line was quite good for a car branded watch. Having my cars vin # etched into the case back would be cool. Don't think I would want that on the face.

A good place to look at awsome new watches is at timezone dot com. Check out their page showing the newest ideas from the Basel, Switzerland show last April. A chronograph function would be welcome too!

Sorry, i should have scrolled down in the thread. This seems to be much further on then I realized. Loved the 928 face you came up with. What size is the case? 40mm? I'm interested too.

Case is 42mm. Satin stainless steel. Exhibition back. Domed beautiful crystal. Custom band (plus one of the standard bands) with "928 LIMITED EDITION" on the back.

Engraving on the back of the case will also be "928 LIMITED EDITION" I don't think we will be able to get VIN's on the back now...just my gut feeling on that.

I showed one of the Laco watches that I LOVE and wear regularly at OCIC but unfortunately most of Germany is on vacation and they did NOT finish our face despite the promise to do so and money being sent to them for same!

Look at posts by RKD...he has done an EXCELLENT rendering of the face (which I printed and showed at OCIC as well.)

Hope the crown is going to be bigger. More like an onion crown.

Look forward to final pictures.

These are really cool, I just have no desire to spend that kind of money on a watch. Mine always get scratched up anyway.

Bronto,

I feel your pain...when I am wearing a nice watch I have to be REALLY careful! These are going to be REALLY COOL!

The crown is the stock LACO crown which I personally really like! I'll see if I can find a pic of it...

Here is what the back will look like (other than the engraving) and the crown will look like this one...

Bronto, been there done that. I felt the same with pens too. Found a pen I really like and just went for it. Since I really liked it I took better care of it and it lasted a very long time until I finally wore the plating off the darn thing. They quit making the pen, so now I have four of them stashed away waiting their turn to be used and enjoyed. Did the same with watches, tore them up all the time so only got cheap ones. After the pen experience I started wearing nice watches and have had great success wearing the plating off of them too.

Yes, I have a watch tan line, AND the inside corner of my shirt pockets are thread bare and raveled from the pen clip.

I had to get prescription glasses to quit losing sunglasses. Even now I have flip up sunglasses that are attached to my regular glasses.

That's okay with me. Sometimes my socks don't even match.

Hey James:

I noticed on the back of the case is inscribed "Mineral Crystal". Would that mineral be Sapphire? If so, Sapphire is very scratch resistant, unless you rub it on concrete!

Regardless, I would not recommend "wrenching" on the car with this watch on. I have an old Seiko watch for that!

I love the face design. When you have these done, I'm definitely in for one.

Good work, btw!

Shawn Smith... Thanks for the support dude. We will be sure NOT to save one for you. Didn't your mom teach you if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all?! She should have...

RKD and Chris have put in a TON of time AND MONEY on this thing and comments like that are not appreciated nor helpful.

Thanks to all the others who have expressed excitement about this project and who have been so supportive. It is a LONG and involved process getting a QUALITY custom watch built and we are going to make it happen!

Not sure if the "mineral" is sapphire...can find out though.

In watch parlance, a mineral crystal and a sapphire crystal are very different. Mineral crystals will scratch and require care to keep nice. But they are also vintage and can be shaped more easily than sapphire. I've got two watches with sapphire crystals and they look as good as the day I got them, very scratch-resistant.

And I SOOOO want to wear a watch that matches my car!
