Greetings!
Some of you may be familiar with my trials trying to get this '82 running right and the final solution being the stupid wrong fuel injection relay. Thanks to you all again for the words of advice and encouragement.
Of course now I'm working on tracking down an assortment of other problems. I got the pod working - connector had fallen off - and all of the lights except for the plate lights and hood. Strange one that but another subject.
Now that the pod is alive and the lights are repaired I have no warning indicators lit in the cluster except for the ! itself. It is on solid not flashing. The console ! button is not lighting up and pressing it does not shut off the pod ! light. I tried disconnecting the battery for a few hours and when I restarted the pod ! light lit up again after a second or so. So it seems that the battery reset may have been effective but then the real cause of the problem caused the warning to turn on again. I inspected the pod with a bright light looking for burned out indicators and all I found was a very small, second set of turn signal indicators at the top of the left column
to the left of the bigger ones above the speedometer and what appears to be an orange ABS indicator at the top of the right column. Could an '82 have ABS? I checked under the hood for obvious ABS controller hardware and although I saw an assortment of various oddball bits of brake plumbing there was nothing there that I recognized as ABS. I know of no ABS fuses or relays on this car. I did take a brief look under the car and there do appear to be wires running to the four corners. Whether they are for brake pad indicators or ABS sensors only closer examination will confirm.
Any thoughts?

ABS started in 84 and not many cars even had it fitted that early.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Okay, well, if an '82 doesn't have ABS then what am I looking at in the wiring at the brakes and the unlit ABS indicator in the pod? And since I don't have an owner's manual, if these are the only two dash warning lights not lighting up then what does it mean when the ! warning light is on by itself (assuming that the ABS indicator is simply a place holder for a future warning light)? Anyone else with an '82 want to check their dash with a bright light to see if they have the ABS indicator on the top right? Or for that matter, wires leading to the calipers. My pod is the one that has the fuel economy indicator.
Thanks.

It sounds like someone either swapped all of your gauges or just the temp/fuel gauge. Does your Oil/Volt gauge have a brake pr. (Brake Pressure) light? If so more than likely just the fuel/temp was changed. The 82 has a year specific cluster circuit and they are getting pretty hard to find.

Does anyone else agree that the two small turn signals at the top on the far left are related to trailer lights? They appear to be green. If they are, I'm wondering if they only turn on when a trailer is connected. I should think they would still light up during the bulb check though.

I was searching through my high res pictures and I found one of my 82 dash with the sun shining on the cluster. There was an amber "Antilock" warning light at the top of the Oil pressure / Voltage gauge. I know the car didn't have antilock but maybe some early '82 euro models did.

So what does all this mean? And why is my ! warning light on? I'm guessing your Antilock light does not light during the bulb test either. So if one is for trailers and shouldn't be on and the other is for Antilock brakes that I don't have and shouldn't be on then what is my ! trying to tell me?
I need 928 ESP (not Electronic Stability Program)
