Over Beartooth Pass to Red Lodge from NE exit of Yellowstone - what a road!! Did it in 1974. Camped near the summit at 10000 feet, lakes all around me. Have fun!

I just made that run a few week's ago. The park was dissappointing with all the dead tree's and construction, but Beartooth was spectacular as alway's.

Cool pictures guys - we'll definitely have some photo opportunities!
Malcolm, if you wish to join and need a place to camp out - we have the room at my place. My good friend Mike from back east (Greywolf on these boards) will be staying with me during this time. We have plenty of space if you need a bed.

Bill, that shot is GORGEOUS! I miss the mountains SOOOO MUCH! They are just to hard to navigate in a wheelchair and I was always WAY OUT in the full on wilderness areas...not the parks so much! thanks for sharing that pic!

There's an overlook from the summit that looks down on the switchbacks. Wish I could find a pic from that spot.

Not sure if its your kinda thing, but there is a Euro car show in Billings put on by the local PCA region, August 22nd.

A few Porsches (including me) will be driving over from Bozeman saturday morning, and back after the show.

Boy, when it rains it pours! Wish it was a different weekend, we aren't likely to be back in time for that show.

As to our gang, here's the run - I've listed 2 options:

Option 1. We'll plan to meet at 8:00 am at the parking lot of the Marroitt Residence Inn in Bozeman, at I-90 and 19th Street. From there, we'll proceed East a short distance on I-90 to Livingston, and head South on Rt 89, thru the Paradise Valley to the North entrance of Yellowstone at Gardiner. Note - it is $25 to get into the park, per car.
Once in the Park, at Mammoth Hot Springs, we'll head east on Rt 212, past Tower, into the Lamar Valley (where the wolves and bison are - bring the camera), and out to Cooke City. From Cooke City, we'll continue east on Rt 212, along the Beartooth Highway, to Red Lodge, where we'll stop and stretch our legs. Note, from the Park to Cooke City, and from milepost 25 to milepost 43 in WY, there will be intermittant construction. The road is open, and mostly paved, but there may be a few patches of hard pan dirt where we'll have to take it slow. I spoke with a collegue who just did this trip, and he said we'd have no problem with our low slung cars.
At Red Lodge, we'll head north on rt 78, up to Columbus. We can either take the highway (I-90) back to Bozeman or follow Rt 10 along the highway to Big Timber, then jump back on I-90 to Bozeman.

Option 2. This option avoids Yellowstone and the construction in WY on Rt 212 altogether. Again, start at 8:00 am, same place, head east on I-90 to Big Timber. Jump off and continue east on Rt 10 to Columbus. Head south on Rt 78 to Red Lodge. At Red Lodge, head west on Rt 212, along the Beartooth Highway, until we hit contsruction/ bad road, then turn around and back track to Red Lodge. At Red Lodge, stay on Rt 212 east to Joliet, then north on Rt 421, back to Columbus, then from Columbus to Bozeman as in Option 1 above.

Participants can let me know which option is more desirable, so I can make maps in advance.

I haven't calculated the mileage for either option, but it will be a full day run, assuming photo/gas/ food stops. Don't forget your 2-ways. Channel 928 (of course).
