Tuning CIS K jetronic - Gas analyzer suggestions
Hey,
For the last 10 years Ive been thinking about gearing up to do all the tuning on my 982 myself. Recently blew the dust off the "Bosche fuel injection & engine management" book and are now looking at purchasing an exhaust gas analyzer.
There are a number of units around but to be honest can't justify spending thousands on a unit. There are 2 gas and 4/5 gas options what is really needed??? Is is best getting one which connects to my PC???
Im keen to hear what you guys think?
Cheers

A 2 gas unit should be fine for tuning since all you're really measuring is CO, isn't it?
Can I ask what models you're looking at? I like the idea of being able to fine tune with a gas analyzer as well instead of justing getting it "close". I've heard that a wideband O2 with a good gauge could probably be used for this as well but have not researched it.

I have seen a nice looking unit for sale at "innovatemotorsports". Its a handheld unit which logs a range of outputs and provides software for a pc/laptop.
Have any of you guys used a similar analyzer? The price is pretty reasonable and surprize surprize they actually sell them in little ol New Zealand haha.

I have the innovative LC-1 wideband. It provides data logging to your laptop. Also hooks up to an A/F gauge for real time monitoring. About $200US with a gauge, $150US with out.
With the Unwirredtools electronic WUR you can program A/F Across RPM and manifold vacuum easily.
Cheap set up that gives the CIS great programability.

I have that in my Corvette, it is just a wideband O2 sensor that you can data log with.
I thought he was looking for something to test CO with.

I have a Heathkit CO meter that I picked up cheap. I'm getting my truck smog checked this week and see how my meter checks out against the one at the smog shop.

I attended a tech session where we used a Gunson "Gastester". The guy doing the tech said it was one of the more accurate ones out there. The downside is that they are tough to find, but they do pop up on EBay every so often for around $200 US.
