Another great mod to go with the short shifter is Carl's **** adaptor for $8. It allows you to use any standard aftermarket ****. Switching to a more ergonomic **** makes the shifter feel more responsive and comfortable.

I would never go back to the Botton top **** after going with a grant evolution. Plus leather and burlwood just looks better IMO. Pic is first try. I have since cut the short shifter down another half inch. Carl's adaptor doesn't need the cut out so you can shorten any shifter hand with out having to make the cut out notches.

I'm still wondering why you don't use the springs. Someone, anyone?

pretty sure the spacer, the springs and the short shift lever wouldn't fit on the rods? It's a pretty tight fit to get the washer and the clip on the end of the shift rods after the lever is installed.

No, this is done internally inside the tranny. The springs on the original shift lever were mainly to keep it tighter feeling on the shift rod pins since they aren't as machined to a tight of a tolerance as the Short Shifters. Basically the originals were "sloppier on the rods" and the Short Shifters are a perfect fit.

The Short Shifters actually have a "snappier" spring back since they are a tighter fit to the shift rod pins and not as sloppy as the originals.

So your telling us your GTS is no longer 100% stock.

Actually I agree 100% The 928 GTS is a car that needs little improvement from the factory. The short shift and RMB are the 2 best improvements you can make although I am unhappy that my SS RMB is rusting at the flanges.

You might consider the 928 Specialist sway bars too. makes for much less body roll.

....and I've put more miles on it in two months then the guy I sold it to did in 15 months

I do plan to do some suspension work as you suggest. My GTS did not come with the optional sport suspension so it floats pretty bad so besides the sway bars I'll probably do new coilovers too and set the ride height down a bit. Additionally, I plan on doing more exhaust work besides the RMB, tint the windows, new wheels and perhaps some interior leather.

[edit] oh yeah, red calipers and drilled rotors bought from DR about 8 years ago..... being painted now!

Many people would be happy with just a shorter shifter (lower ****) and stock throws, for a more ergonomic shifter and little increased shifting effort. A short shifter with stock and reduced arc rod locations might be a good product, then you could try both. Or you could take the grinder to your stock one and then go aftermarket if you decide you need more.
