Default Swapping S4 bumpers onto an OB (another track car project question)

Anyone swapped S4 bumpers onto an OB (dumb question 'cause I know the answer is yes). Were you able to reuse the OB front fenders or no because the S4 front bumper extends back to the wheel wells? Just trying to take an investory on what parts I need to make the swap. Since I have to do a full repaint now's the time to make the change.

you have to bend or cut the OB fenders in the front section. that is the only mod. in the rear, same thing. once you go S4, you cant go back.

Also, when you put those S4 covers onto an earlier car, it will never *EVER* look right. Just MO after seeing these conversions for over 10 years.

really? I was always under the inpression that they looked correct. I should add, the OB style rear spoiler has been removed from this body and the wheels are not OB style either - hopping it looks right. Guys, thanks for the feedback.

For the rear - You should get the rear quarter panels from a donor S4. Once you acquire those, you must drill out the spot welds on the OB quarter panels then weld in the S4 panels. THEN the rear bumper cover should fit and look factory. There's a thread somewhere here with pictures on the project.

Actually the metal bulkhead behind the tool kit that goes from 1/4 to 1/4 is MUCH different and much has to be cut away and reformed to allow the taillight housings to fit in place....I have done it and it requires a far amount of fabrication and welding to fit real S-4 parts the AIR fiberglass has the lights lower to make it easier. Many "updates" were done with the AIR stuff which sorta kinda looks like an S-4 . Good luck finding S-4 tail lights at a reasonable price !

What is all this nonsense… I thought it was a bolt on swap! Thanks for the info, I had no knowledge that the neither the quarter panels nor the rear sheet metal was different between the OB and S4. Glad I asked.

Nothing on the body of a 928 is a bolt on swap.

Jim is correct. (as usual) I've done it. If you don't do much metal fabrication you don't want to try it. If you do it's not that bad. But I definately wouldn't want to pay thave it done, it wouldn't be cheap!

FYI, you do not have to modifiy your expensive fenders. Simply cut (shave) the 90 degree mating flange on the bumper covers down to approx 1/8" and use the same Factory 3M adhesive to adhere them to the fenders and the end result will look the same as a factory S4. Plus the composite bumper covers are much easier to cut than the fenders and you can easily switch back to the S Bumper covers later if you want to.

I'll be putting up some pictures in my track car thread here very soon with my S4 front bumper. It doesn't perfectly line up, so I wouldn't recommend it for a pristine street car. For the racer, no one would ever notice.

Does anyone out there have the link that shows how the S4 rear bumper cover was modified to fit an OT bumper....
