Default Installed Autothority chips today - wow!

With the help of Mike Frye today we swapped out the rear axles shafts with a set that has fresh boots and grease on my green '86.5. We also replaced the stock chips with a set of Autothority chips I purchased last year.

Wow - what a difference in performance! The engine pulls strong all the way up to the redline. The exhaust note is really nice with the crossover, high flow cats and RMB.

Thanks again Mike for your help today!

No Problem Adam, with a little luck my car will be back on the road by next week and we can both make a run soon. My wife's 6 cylinder Mustang was like bringing a knife to a gunfight when you opened it up on Rt. 18.

Glad I could help. Your car sounded awesome when you opened it up. That RMB really makes it sound nice and I'm sure it really opens things up.

Having a local 928er who can help turn wrenches is invaluable as a 928 owner......

Very true, and Adam has helped me on far more projects over the past few years than I've helped him on.

Adam, your car must have been set up perfectly before the chip swap though. You said that when you mash it it goes all the way to redline before shifting now. I wasn't in the car at the time, but even on wet roads those wide-*** 17s you have on there held on and you just took OFF.

Now it's time to stop working on it and just drive it for a while!

You can get the clones on e-bay for $40. The early 32Vs respond the best to the chips and the S4 have less of an improvement. Either way, if you spend less tan $100, you can't go wrong.

Nice work guys!

The pre-S4 cars have no knock sensors and respond a great deal more to chips due to the conservative stock tune. With chips you damn well better run good gas.

That reminds me - I bought a set of Autothority chips last year and never installed them.

I've GOT to get them installed for the ride down to SITM! Should be a blast!

I haven't dyno'd the green '86.5 but there is a noticeable "seat of the pants" difference between the stock configuration and the crossover/highflow cats/rmb and chips.

Although both my '86.5's have Rogerboxes, I'm looking forward to a run against Mike's '85 5 speed in the near future. I'm sure one of us will report back on the results.

When I bought my first 928 (the '88 S4) the PO told me she thought her husband had put "chips" in the car and when I drove it I thought, jeez, this thing is SLOW! So I fixed the kick down lever that was not hitting the kickdown switch (and that helped of course) and I then paid $600+ for a set of AutoAuthority chips.

Much to my dismay when I took the car apart there were AA chips inside! I was TOTALLY BUMMED! So I pulled them and put the new ones in and went for a drive! HOLY COW! The chips in the car were an old program that SUCKED! The new ones ROCKED! With that and a RMB it pulled 266/267 RWHP/RWTq on the dyno a year or so ago.

There is a LOT left in that car, but I don't have the skill or the ability to get to it. My GTS's are the same way. Fast, but they could be SO MUCH faster with a little tuning from someone who is good!

All that just to say if you have AA chips and they do not seem to be doing much, then either check to see that they are the most recent programming or get some new ones to be sure. They should really wake up a stock car.
