Default SCCA ITE /SP LAGUNA SECA races April 25th '09 (VIDEO UP)

It looks like Scot is coming out as well, after fixing his exploded clutch that has been bucking and fighting for the last year. turns out, he had a destroyed disc, and a warped flywheel. Intermediate plate was cooked as well, those tabs were just too darn lose. Anderson set him up with a good used set up.

The race is set for 3pm on Sunday.

Kind of a light field this month, but i suspect the thunderhill race next month might be a little more packed as it is a double race weekend at the end of May.

same as Sears last month. 305s all the way around.

WITH the bigger brake set up. ( GTS rotors, pagid blacks, and S4 calipers)

What is the rest of the field looking like? Hopefully a few of the "hot rods" are over at Thunderhill for the NASA event?

The race weekend went great. A little cold for camping at Laguna, but we did pretty well all things considered. Scot really had no business going out on worn brakes, but he did and survived. He broke a shift ball cup on the out lap of qualifying. brand new one. I would suggest, EVERYONE get carls new ball cup design or take off the stock one, if the plastic is in good shape, pull it off and weld it. Scots broke at the spot weld from the threaded shaft to the cup. (pull the plastic piece out first). He found a welder and had it fixed up, literally, better than new.

He worked his way from the back of the pack and had a great battle with the high powered mustang, before the race was cut short due to a nasty crash of a camaro. We finished under caution, but after 75% of the normal laps.

I qualified 4th, but the hot rod Rx7 that hit me at Sears last month, ended up running a 1:35.7 for the 2nd spot, with the 687flywheel hp Viper next to me and the NSX on Pole. The Rx7, crashed at the corkscrew and was unable to race, as he was in front of me during qualifying, and just went too deep in to the corkscrew. I got a great start, watched the NSX just check out and held off the near 700hp viper for a few laps. The Holbert stroker really performed like it has more power than it dyno'ed! anyway, he got by and I ended up 3rd.

Video is on Youtube and will post a link for the in -car-cam, side videw cam and rear view cam.

By the way, I forgot to mention Scot lost an alternator this weekend at the end of the race. He didnt have much battery left when we started home, so 20min in to the drive, the car died. we swaped to his almost dead spare, and lasted for another 20min. my spare was installed on the side of the road on hy17 through the SantaCruz mountains, while I directed traffic around him. should have taken a picture of that ! anyway, my spare battery got him home. (14amp-hour battery lasts about 1 hour at 10amp current draw like our cars run on the hyway)

Mark how were your lap times with the new brakes and bigger front tires?

certainly no where near the fade, but I dont think I was taking complete advantage of the greater capability. still had a little push, but was driving into the turns harder and was asking more of them than they could provide. lap times were slightly faster, even on a day where a lot of guys were running 1 second slower. no heat in the tires at all. very cold! lots of stuff on the track. Race time was .5 seconds faster than the Oct race last season. qual time was a tenth or so better at 1:37.7.

brakes were much better and I cooked them too! even pagids and blacks are no match for Laguna Seca!! Sears didnt bed them enough. it wasnt until they were cooked well at laguna that a bedding issue of the pads was solved. (felt like warped rotors ) by race time they were fine. this is supposed to be the natural bedding process of a resin based pad. ???? anyway, the rotors are showing signs of cracking too! very faint, but this didnt happen on the smaller rotors until about 2 more races from now. I wonder if it is a zimmerman vs porsche rotor thing, a pad thing, or a more heat in the rotor thing?

In the end, the brakes and tires just made the car a little more safe to drive. I didnt have to be on the edge as much. A little better control feel. I really want to get a good set of the smaller tires that make the car .5" lower as it felt like it handled a little better with the car lower, but really hard to tell. biggest difference was in straightline braking. much mre capability.

Oh yea......did you take the spacers off? If you left them on....it appears they are working regardless of what the dyno said?

Had some silly experience with zimmermans as well (those were on 944 tho). Personally I wont buy 'em again.

No, they were pulled off that night and did some freeway 60-100runs to see the diff. Looks like the mid range is back based on times. car still runs the exact same times, even with it being a little cold out there and grip was low.
(1:37.7 qual 1:38.1 race, same as Oct '08) . plugs looks really good after a race, so im thinking the car is working well with out any issues. this was its 12th race day for the new engine too! beat it up, just like the old engine so I guess things are good.
Im temped to go to the dyno to prove the midrange is back, but it is showing on the rolling dyno times. Dont know what the issue is, but the changing of Helmhotz chamber is a very complex science. I do think its one of those mods that needs to be done at the dyno on and off, same day.
