I have a Stage 3 clutch in my S4 and the stock twin disc in my 84 Euro.
Comparing the stock dual disc to the stock single, the dual is:

- Lighter
- Larger surface area
- Smaller in diameter (engine revs faster)
- Greater clamping force

Has anyone played with the single disc cutch and stiffening the pressure plate?

doesnt Carl have the high clamping force single disc clutches too? I wonder if they are heavy like the stock S4 stuff.

to answer the question about why the twin disc. as was said, more clamping force, more surface area , and lighter weight. 25lbs lighter! Thats spinnning mass, so its like 1.5 to 2x that as if it was sitting in the car as far as acceleration gains.

The extra mass is very noticeable when switching between driving the '84 and the '87. The '87 usually requires an extra "blip" to match revs.

I know, i lived it for a few days before i did the Holbert car conversion project. It wasnt a huge difference in "blip" feel, but certanly was a little easier to blip.
the clamping force was a biggie. even at the time, 290rwhp was slipping on hard up shifts.

I also noticed a huge difference going from a stock '86 to the S/C'ed GT with X-pipe. At first I thought the car had a problem because the revs dropped so slow in comparison.
