Bill, you and I checked mine for movement a few years ago and it was fine, but I'm not sure which shaft I have. BerNard says they made the change over to the 28mm shaft in mid '89 so if I have the 25mm shaft do I just need to order the kit and install it? Is the kit available through the Big Three or Four? I need to pull mine for bearing replacement so I may as well do it all at once.

what benefit would this have on a 924/944/968? AFAIK they do not suffer from thrust bearing failure like the 928's do, and automatic 924/944's are very rare...
968's did come in a tiptronic, which is a little more common than the auto 944

SWEET! I planned on buying both of these products next winter, as I am going to be out of the country for 6 months. So expect an order from me next winter!

Hi,

The bearings you see here are being made in the correct sizes for the 924/944/968 series, not the clamp which is 928 specific.

I have them coming next and testers are standing by for them.

Hope that answers your question!

Cheers,
Constantine

Hi Charley,

Good questions!

We are coming out with bearing inserts that will also fit the 28mm shafts too and they should be done very soon. This way you just need to tell us which drive shaft you have and we'll send your choice of rebuild bearings for installation.

The Super Bearing kits and Super Clamp are only available through our little company, Black Sea Research & Development. We took the steps of becoming Rennlist sponsors so we could directly service the 928 owners and keep the pricing down on our products. We have also invested in credit card machine services to offer more payment options for the 928er.

We are also slowly building up a website which will further discuss our products and answer other questions people might have about their drive line concerns and maintenance.

Hope that answered your questions!

Cheers,
Constantine

Hi Everyone,

For those interested, here is a shot of our new 928 torque tube (TT) "Super Bearings" in both the steel and lighter weight aluminum version.

These are an upgrade to the original 928 TT bearing units and use a bigger bearing as well as a new bearing insert which grips the drive shaft better than the original bearing insert. Especially since they have now have shrunk and gotten brittle with time. The units have also been lengthened and the rubber composition changed from the original. These two changes help keep the units in their positions better.

The steel version was purposely made heavy to help dampen the vibrations inherit in the drive line. Two will approximate the weight of the heavy 928 TT dampener installed by the factory to do the same job. These have been known to come apart and cause problems within the TT.

The aluminum versions were made to give the sporting enthusiasts an option to keep the TT light. We believe the increased rubber on the surround and in the bearing insert will help dampen the vibrations just fine, but can't guarantee it at this time. For comparison, Porsche did not install the heavy dampener in the 928 GT models.

We only have 25 steel and 25 aluminum versions at this time. At least two units are needed for a TT rebuild, but three would be better to control the drive shaft deformation under load. For comparison, Porsche usually put two bearing units in the automatic TTs and three in the 5 speed TTs.

Currently putting the finishing touches on the installation kits and will update this thread with pricing and other information. These bearing units are only available for the 25mm drive shafts. The 28mm drive shaft versions are coming shortly.

Please feel free to ask any questions and comments are welcome! Anyone wanting to place a hold on some please PM me so we can place you on the list. No money will be taken at this time, only when they are ready for shipping.

Thank you,
Constantine

As promised above, here is the price list:

Super Clamp new retail price - $330.00 plus shipping

Standard 2 bearing steel TT kit - $346.00 plus shipping
Standard 2 bearing steel and Super Clamp TT kit - $646.00 plus shipping

Increased street performance TT rebuild kits for stroker, S/C'd or Turbo engines:
2 steel and 1 aluminum bearing TT kit - $523.00 plus shipping
2 steel, 1 aluminum and Super Clamp TT kit - $823.00 plus shipping
Heavy duty 3 steel TT kit - $510.00 plus shipping
Heavy Duty 3 steel and Super Clamp TT kit - $810.00 plus shipping

Lightweight regular street performance TT kits:
2 aluminum bearing TT kit - $366.00 plus shipping
2 aluminum bearing and Super Clamp TT kit - $665.00 plus shipping

Lightweight street/track performance TT kits:
3 aluminum bearing TT kit - $549.00 plus shipping
3 aluminum bearing and Super Clamp TT kit - $849.00 plus shipping

These are introductory prices and hope most can see the value for the money with these parts. A lot of work and effort have gone into these new 928 TT bearing units. The problems with the older units have been studied and engineered out of these new units.

All of our products are made in the U.S.A. and we are very proud of this fact. Although some believe these products can be made overseas cheaper, we chose to stay within the U.S.A. to better control the end product.

Shipping by USPS priority mail in most instances. We found this is the most cost effective way to ship our products, around $10-$11.00 within the U.S. Other services available if needed.

We can accept Paypal, money orders, checks and major credit cards. Decided to take the plunge with a CC machine to better service our customers since Paypal is sometimes a hassle.

Thank you,
Constantine

Hi Steve C.,

Great! Very glad you like and use them, and coming from you it is a compliment!

But for the record, Roger is no longer carrying them and we will handle all future sales of them.

Kind regards,
Constantine

Steve,
For the record you and Nick got the third to last clamp that I had in stock.
As Nick ordered it over a week ago I was selling at the old price and not aware, at that time, that we would not be carrying them in the future.
It is already on the way to you and will be at my sale price of $275.
Thanks again for your business.
Roger

Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

Just like the clamps, the bearings look like works of art.

Default Free torque tube (TT) rebuild offer!

We have been asked about torque tube rebuild services.

At this time we will rebuild a customer's TT free with the purchase of a Super Bearing kit.

Although we designed the Super Bearings specifically so the owner or his/her mechanic could rebuild the TT at their location, we will also offer this service for those who have a TT they would like rebuilt with our Super Bearings.

The owner will ship their TT to us and we will rebuild their TT with their choice of Super bearing kit and then ship the TT back to them along with the parts that came out of the TT. Since we will rebuild the owners original TT no core charges will apply, only shipping charges.

Turn around time will be within a week of receiving the TT at our location in Vero Beach, Florida.

Cheers,
Constantine
