I think it is a dreadful situation when the definitions of words, which are thought out and written down for others to follow, are then allowed to float around and change into what the mass collective sees fit at the moment.

Its really no big deal. The people who know it only means 78 and 79 are correct. And the people who think it includes L-Jet and even beyond to 85 and 86 are simply INCORRECT. Its no big issue. It may be for certain egos, but there are simple facts brought about by the fact that people many years ago coined the term, and that term will only be correct if used in that context/definition.

I have an OB body. Its a 78. It had vaccum locks, CIS, unusual castings or body stampings in certain places, a somewhat different HVAC vac setup, and even different lower rear arms.

Its no longer in that guise, but it was an "OB"

The simple answer is YES, I have not only seen one, but driven one that was a late 1984 euro and it had no spoilers FROM THE FACTORY. It is still to this day owned by the origonal owner.

As well you forgot MY 86 and 86.5 (to keep Ken happy)

I respectfully, but totally disagree. Language changes all the time. The fact that someone writes something down does not make it an unchangeable law. Believe me that the editors of dictionaries not only do not want that power, they would go out of business if they had it. They have new editions for reasons.
I believe the most important part of language is communicating ideas effectively. Definitions change as usage does. Again, if said that something was a factoid, knowing that the original meaning was an incorrect fact, I wouldn't be communicationg well, since most believe that it just means a trivial fact. Language should and change with time and location.
This also begs the question, who is right here? It is written in the "Read This..." section that it is 78-80, however there are some guys that have been around here along time that say that the 80's cars shouldn't be included. Maybe one of those guys wrote it down first.

I'd agree that the Old Bugger is 78-79 only (but not in the poll). The S, S2, and S3 are old body style
with spoilers and larger engines. That left the 80-82 non-S as the stepchildren of the 928 world,
old body style, 4.5L, and L-Jet. Lot of owners don't like that, so they argue for inclusion.

I lost track of who said it here (and I'm paraphrasing), but I believe "no computer, no spoilers, no auto" sums up the OB definitiion quite nice. I simply think early models, no bells and whistles....
