No sunroof, pre-stripped interior and a running engine? Lucky!

And $500. Just "cheap enough" to cause major damage to the wallet...

Thanks to Tom Middleton, John Davis, and Ken Osage for donating calipers to get my OB back on the road. Got them installed and bled the brakes and slave cylinder with the Motive bleeder. The driver side front did not want to drain, so I had the pump the brake pedal. Whatever the restiction was it blew out and a steady stream of ATE super blue started squirting out.
The front rotors turned fine upon installation of the calipers, but after having applied to the brakes they are difficult to turn again. Not locked up like before, but just difficult. The rears are fine. I will probably just run it down the road and see if they free up some.
Tom and Maurice helped out yesterday by draining the tranny fluid and installing the stock S4 sway bar onto the OB. Pretty wild when they drained the tranny fluid, it was full of a thick foamy substance, must be some kind of tranny treatment. I'm going to run some cheapo transaxle fluid just to try to get the rest of that crap out of the tranny, and then fill up with the good stuff.
Hoping to be able to get her drivable soon to see what other things need addressing before tracking her on May 8th.

Damn, you guys don't linger on a project.

Kind of like Firemed of the Northwest.

Not only Adams car..but I stopped over to John's house yesterday and he was knee deep in removing the AT from his neighbors new 89 Samtrot S4...it has a front seal leak.... and he wants to take it to the track in a couple weeks too..so lots of "little" projects happening all across the PacNW... So much for the Midlman Directive ..

Note: Midlman directive is a well known PacNW rule of being allowed to work on your 928 only until 2 weeks prior to a track event. Anyone that continues to work on their 928 after this point will be severely beaten with a broken timing belt....
Either that...or we get everyone to jump in and spend the whole night before the event getting it done, so all involved are absolutely wiped out and tired on the day of the event

Here's a pic of the spooge from the transaxle. This is after most of it had emptied out, the transaxle was full of this stuff. mmmmm...... tasty!

Here's the GT2 wing sitting on the OB, not exactly what I have in mind for placement (will be higher and more to the rear when mounted) but gives an idea of what it will look like.

Have to admit though, it would look pretty killer on the S4:

Is the spooge an oily milkshake from water getting in the transaxle?

I've seen water create a milky film but not these kinds of bubbles, I wonder how it would get in the transaxle? Maybe a hole in the top lid? I'm wondering of the tranny was having shifting problems and the guy just put some kind of additive in there. The car was owned by someone with some mechanical ability. The front fender well has the peep hole cut out for axis to the clutch master cylinder, and the line to the slave has been re-routed. I'm going to hondabond the rear plate on for now while I'm waiting for the gasket to come in, fill it with some standard grade gear oil and drive it a couple miles, drain it all out and then do it right with the new gasket and good oil. It was a smooth shifting tranny, hopefully it will stay that way sans spooge.

If you were driving it, the gears would foam it. The milkshake that came out of my Mustang valve covers after blowing a head gasket was so thick and frothy, you could probably put it in a cone and tell somebody that it was coffee softserve ice cream. There was some watery sludge in my 84 Euro when I took drained the transaxle, but it hadn't been driven recently so it wasn't frothed. I can't wait to see what comes out of my 79. Judging by the license plate on it, it hasn't been driven since 1998.

Got the tranny reloaded with new gear oil. Filled the replacement rad with distilled water (only to find a leaky end tank?). Fired her up and took her around the block.
Man, she is a rocket. With no interior in the car and the battery temporarily mounted where the passenger seat goes, she breaks the tire loose with ease. Going to be fun on the track.

Andre, glad the bracket made it to you. Yeah sorry about Law Firm mailing label, it's just quicker to print up that way.

Colin and Chris, yes the hope is to bring the OB out, but it still needs a lot of work. I put my S4 wheels on it so I can try to get some miles on it. It needs a door latch, I don't think the bungy chord holding the driver door closed will work too well going around turn 4 . I got Tom's seat mounted in it, but I need a seat belt or harness. Driver front caliper is still dragging a bit, but not locked up like before. And, I ran it for awhile today and I've picked up a slight miss. I'm going to put new plugs in it and see if I have any shorts in the plug wires. May need to do a green wire inspection while I'm at it. I'll be working on it every night in hopes to have it ready.

Ed, can't wait to mount the wing for real, but that is still a ways off, gotta get this beast running consistently first. A couple of decent aluminum uprights for it and it will look (and function) great!
