Default How to roll fenders on S4?? (olike the 89 GT)

The Stock 928 GT in 1989 had factory rolled fenders.

How can the fenders be rolled?

I've tried the "bat" but no luck (and I'm chicken to crack the paint)

I've heard there is a fender rolling device that bolts to the hub, with a roller that you just roll back and forth increasing pressure.

Heard of it, never seen it, do'nt know anybody with one either.

take a rubber mallot to the fender lip with the wheel off. that way , you can start it. I would recommend that even with the tool being used. once you have a little bend angle, put the tire back on and use the baseball bat or the rolling machine.

It does look okay.
I do not have one and have no affiliation with Tire Rack, I just happened up that tool and this thread at about the same time, so I can't give any real details about the quality and functionality.

I read somewhere it is a good idea to warm up the paint a little with a hair drier to help prevent the paint from cracking. No first hand knowledge on that though.

Appears Eastwood offers the same item for a little cheaper.

Sterling, whats up with the cartoon **** avitar??

Thats a great idea. chop the top, carve out the rear fenders and raise the fender line, as well as cut out the front fender as well.

that would be some cool aero and take some weight out of the car too!

I downloaded the PDF instructions from the Tire Rack link. Indeed you need to heat the paint, considerably before and during the process. They show a few pic of a second person holding a heat gun very close to the lip of the wheel well. This is not a one person job.

I did my fenders in February (last year... may 2 ago) in Michigan. It was below freezing. I tried to warm up the paint, but then said ****it. Paint didn't crack at all. YMMV.

Remember, heat can be your friend, but heat guns are also one of the best paint strippers out there.

Keep it moving.

For what it's worth. I had a "reputable shop" try to roll my '93 RX-7 fenders... total poop. Went to a little shop that new what it was doing, GREAT JOB. Make sure you have what it takes. A tool is just a tool.
