dr bob is spot on. These cars like any other can be frustrating and you just need to walk away. I just had to do head gaskets and all associated items with my wifes GM minivan (dexcool is the devil!). I had to walk away from it, talk about a monkey puzzle!
I would rather work on one of the 928's any day and the satisfaction and rewards is much higher.
These are my mistress' and are much cheaper in the long run!
My cars are not perfect but run well, to nice and you don't want to drive them.

As mentioned in a previous post, I've been eves-dropping on the Ferrari Forum BBs. The amount of lamenting that those folks express over 20-30K 308GT repair jobs makes me feel lucky that I love 928s. Well....I love the 308GTs too, but not enough to step into deeper doo-doo than my my 401k can bail me out of.

Well Greg, I think you stated it pretty well.
I switched from marriages to 928's, and so far I think I've saved myself two houses and an *** wuppin'.
Hell at this rate I could stand a fuel hose fire and still be ahead of the game.

Greg, I guess this means she's still not on the road.
I hope she's at least inside and not out by the road where the Rolls used to sit.
I will be by as soon as possible to give you a verbal beating , then we can go have a cold beer after I inspect the progres made!

You've seen my stuff. I bought a very nice car and took it apart. I bought a crap car and took it apart. I bought a car, didn't take it apart, fixed it up as you describe, but cut out the fancy stuff, and THEN I took it apart.
I Decided the reason I took it apart is because I want to have the car in such a way that its as close to perfect as I can possibly afford and idealize in my head. I am doing that now. I am throwing every simple or complex idea into the grinder and spending the money when its there.
When its done, its done. I'll build a different model if I don't like it. Even if I do like it, I will probably do a kit car.
I will tell you though: Sell it all if you are a detailist or a perfectionist and you can't get it done that way. Because otherwise its a useless endeavor.

And tell the people who mention that you took a nice car apart of go Fxck themselves. Don't invite them back. Ask them what piece of **** japanese refrigerator brick-**** crap trap they are driving. Ask them how they feel when driving it.
And know that people like that can never truly understand what its like to drive a car that you know every nut and bolt on. When you put your soul into a man made machine, you get it back and alot more.

I got the block back, every thing is all balanced, clean, measured..........etc.
I will be starting to put it back together tomorrow, all down hill from here.
I have a good lead on a complete interior, just a few more parts.................
I really hope to be able to drive it by the end of the month.
It really has been a lot of work, and I did get frustrated and walked away from it for a while, but I am back into it now.
And, oh yea, it stays inside, god I was glad to see that POS Rolls go.
We just finished another Rolls 3 weeks ago, more brake issues, man those things have weird brake setups.
2 engine driven pumps, 2 complete independent brake systems, 6 calipers, and if the accumulators are bad, and the engine stops, you have no brakes at all, weird design, they either stole it from the French or the French stole it from them.
But yea, stop by, we will go have a beer.
Did you buy the 944 that you were looking at?

My better half does not understand why I get excited at the sight of a old panel truck, or a beat up P1800, like you I see what could be.
One of my good friends, a real car guy, loves his M5, he has spent a ton of money on it, and while it is a very capable car, it is always going to be a 4 door.
I do not understand that, but every one has a different idea of what a perfect car is to them.

Speak the truth brother. I don't know why but I've found no other car I love to drive as much as the 928. I will say I have never driven a Ferrari or Lambo so the 928 is the best car in my small world at this point.

Mine understands the 1800 (we dated in one over 30 years ago) and the 928. Still doesn't understand why there are 4 of the latter in the driveway, though. Only really good one is the 928 she drives.
Am knocking off the projects one at a time. All the big stuff. 2 steps forward, 1 back on a good day. They will not defeat me.
