I feel your pain. I have now taken my intake off 3 times while replacing those $1100 worth of rubber bits and sensors. Put it back together and something is squeeling like a pig. One of these days I'll get it, but right now I'm in the hate phase of my love hate relationship.

It's like a 20 year marriage. You got into it with passion, you find that it's not perfect and always needs working on. It's more expensive than you ever imagined. Somedays you just want to be rid of the darn thing but you realize how much you have put into...and why.
It's when you pull up to a light and some twenty sometihng in a Jetta with blacked out badges and 20" rims gives you that nod of respect that you realize that you are lucky that both love you back. Cause face it, we're not factory fresh and under warrantee ourselves.

Yeah Man! I'm lucky, when mine pisses me off (which it does daily) - I get to take it out on the current morgue victim...And sometimes it can get ugly around here. It's a good thing I never drink and work.
The car is really love hate Greg. When I spent $10,000 on my first one, broke it immediately, and then found a running identical car 60 miles away for $2,000.... I had a meltdown. I went berzerk. I made irrational posts on this forum, I didn't know what to do.... That experience gave birth to 928worldwide. Now- I still love/hate the car... But instead of calling it quits and buying a used jetta, I drive one daily anyway, and put up with the BS....as linderpat said... the go pedal makes it worthwhile.

I hope no one took me seriously, this was just a poke at myself for getting in so deep into a 20 year old car.
I actually am excited about building the motor, getting all the shinny new clean parts, the powder coated stuff.
All of us are a little off for going overboard on these cars, but for many, like myself, the working on the car is a lot of the fun.
They are, used German sports cars, and as such, they need regular work to be kept in good shape.

That reminds me of when I was buying my 1988. I went to go look at it in the owners garage and asked to test drive it. He looked outside and it was cloudy and said not today. It might rain. I came back a few days later and bought it.

I have been fortunate that my best friend is a car nut with a wonderful selection of cool cars and I get to drive them anytime. It always amazes me how the 928 compares. He has had everything from Testerossa's to 911 turbos and so far nothing has ever been a good replacement for the 928. Sure they all have their strong points but none of them could replace the 928 as a car I want to drive all the time.

I plan to keep my 928 basically stock but continue to catch up on maintenance. the 911 is raw fun. the 928 pure pleasure to drive. and my F-1504X4 for mundane driving needs and bad weather.
now when is Roger going to reply to my email about ordering fuel lines, fuel pump/parts, etc.?
well... off to finish getting the cage/seats installed for MidOhio 4/17.

What I usually do is fix car up until it is darned near perfect, put that last extra effort into it, and sell it for less than I paid for it.
Try not to do that. I'm still kicking myself over the last one.

Everybody says you gotta be a little crazy to own and maintain a 928... I think you gotta be a lot crazy NOT to own one. You can just get SO MUCH CAR for so little cash with these. Sure, parts are expensive... Sure they can be a pain in the ***... Sure they can cause maritial problems... But kids now days pour tons of cash into mods on their "fast and the furious" hondas, nissans, and mitsubishis. I would rather have a well maintained stock 928 than the absolute best/most expensive tuner import out there. That's just the way I am...
Does any of this make any sense at all???

Hmmmmmm........
Maybe I need to be able to let my 928 see you working on one of your "morgue victims". Maybe she will shape up and give me a good summer of driving.
See what happened to the last 928 you acted up? Let that be a lesson to you.

Iris witnesses this day in day out and she's not phased....and still bothers me all the time. If it would work that way, we could have 928 group therapy sessions and charge what shrinks charge people for visits!

But his 575 is pretty close....................
928's are a love-hate relationship.....when all is well on a nice day nothing beats the BWAAAHHHH factor....those are the "love" days
When it breaks down and gets towed home....or when you find this (below)...those are the "hate" days
