Everyone around here that has had a 350Z has not kept it very long. Get a boxster and do the speedster humps!

I liked the way it handles and drives a lot better than the 911 cab.

This was mine...

The 350 looks like the better buy based just on the numbers, but wait 5 or 10 years and the Nissan will be just another Japanese sport coupe, while the 911 will remain a timeless classic. A no-brainer IMO.

I have briefly driven a 350Z and was not super impressed by it.

If I wanted a convertible, I would probably get a Boxster S rather than a 996. The rear seats in the 996 are likely useless, and the Boxster has the better weight distribution. I'm sure you could do some subtle enhancements to the engine and get near 996 performance.

If you'd rather have another coupe, a really nice 928 - 91 or newer model - might be a good way to go. you are keeping lots of 928 parts in stock anyway, and have learned how to work on them. Besides, you'd have a "reference" car for what they should feel like...

But obviously, we are all biased here. So, in the end you'll have to test drive them and go from there.

Have fun!

That particular 996 Cab looks pretty sweet compared to a stock 996. only $8k more. Seems like no contest there.

Okay enough about cars... what about the replacement wife you test drove?

I'd go the stealth more conservative route. But then I'm probably a lot older. An Audi S4 with the V8. Good for taking the kids around and a little less showy for the future MRS.
