928 Racer with 6-Speed Manual Transmission
I first thought this was a joke, but now a German 928 owner claims that this is a special 6-Speed designed for 968 turbo race cars - of which only 4 were built. Still sketchy information, but I will follow it closely:

Hi Nicole,
Very cool 928 racer! Can't you contact them and inquire more about their car and trans?
Some more interior shots of the 928 racer and the engine mods to control the known oiling issue problems would be great. I would try but don't know German.
Does it say how they are doing currently?
Thanks for sharing,
Constantine

Hey guys,
What would be the advantage of the "6 Gang manuell" I've never felt that there were gaps with my 5 sp, but does the 928 box really need to have closer ratios?
I know its not to increase the top speed...I think.
And very cool racer for sure.

If you look the shift lever which goes to the tranny has been changed and moves much further up the shaft (probably around 5" of change) so they can afford to have the shift lever really tall.
The logic behind this is that by having the shift lever tall is to get it closer to the steering wheel so you spend more time with your hands on the wheel.

But I can see what you're saying about keeping your hands on the wheel as much as possible.

Tighter ratios ultimately lead to a faster car as you stay closer to peak power. Presumably if it's a full on race box it has dog synchros so you can do no clutch shifting as well. Those two things are very useful in a race car. For a track car they are just nice to have.
