Richard, Sorry to say but you are hoping someone is going to PM you with the details? I think you need to be a bit more proactive if I may say.

FYI, its a salvage title car. There is NO TITLE, only a bill of sale and not only is there no Engine, but there is no ECU, no parts to connect engine to drivetrain, no ancillary stuff, no rad, needs a repaint, has leather warping on the interior, needs tires, not GTS brakes on and on.

No to mention, to get a title, you would likely have to ship the car to WA, build it back into a car there, and have it inspected at which point you may get a WA rebuilt title but even thats iffy. I think only licensed rebuilders can do this stuff and you would need to provide receipts for EVERYTHING. Not to mention many things i am not mentioning. But i think you get the picture.

Anyone can do the inspection (WA State Police). When I did it a couple years ago it only took 5-10 minutes and they didn't ask for any receipts just what work I did on the car.

Then you take the paper work from the inspection/bill of sale to the DMV and they send you a title with a big "rebuilt" stamped across it.

Ryan et al....

Thanks for the points guys.. I have not been on this forum in a while, but I have a garage full of 928 stuff, an engine is not too bad to get, and commputer.. I have an extra rad from C&R (same as the 928 international aluminum).. I am interested in the colour, the body, and that it is a 5 speed.. Not worried about the other things....

Anyway, I have gotten the seller's phone by PM...

Thanks again...!

I'm still tempted by this beast but haven't heard back from Lloyd-am waiting for a CD of additional photos. He was kind enough to send me the 'money shot' (below). Having bought a motor from Mark A. and knowing what is and isn't included, it quickly becomes apparent how much this'll take to make whole, at least to the point of getting it to WA to get inspected. And then there's getting it into CA and smogged. Oy. A buyer in WA or a no-smog county in or near WA is definitely at an advantage here.

Shall we make a game of what's missing? Here's my list, and all prices are 928Intl prices, used parts whenever possible. Some of the electronic bits no way would I install used stuff, why take chances at smog when they'll be looking at the car with a fine tooth comb?

5.0L longblock 4500
02 sensor 100
ignition temp sensors- pair 150
ignition control relay 150
cage for LH and EZK and socket for IC relay 40
other part of brain cage
alternator and all mounting bolts/rear cover/etc+D11 250
air pump 150
All auxilliary belts 50
Heater hoses 75
All vacuum hoses 20
alt/PS pump mounting bracket 75
MAF 400
air cleaner top 150
air cleaner bottom 75
air cleaner straps x 4 145
S4 intake tubes 40
Clutch hoses/slave cylinder/piston 150
bellhousing cover 75
PP/clutch/flywheel/release arm 1000
fan shroud 230
radiator and all coolant hoses 500
engine compartment crossbar 75
motor mounts (?) I see the heatshields but not the mounts.... 40
motor mount top plates 25
motor mount bottom plates 25
fuel lines 80
coils 70
LH 250
EZK 250
starter 150
cats 300
resonators/intermediate mufflers
Muffler or RMB 150
intermediate shaft 100
clutch shaft/TT shaft clamp and bolt 50
Hall sensor 85
CPS 50

Total: 10025

Even with a spare motor and exhaust you're still looking at $4K+.

The guys in WA have made a generous offer to help get this car back on the road but the ball is in Lloyd's court- For all I know today, the car's long gone. Regardless of who gets her, I hope the story ends up with a beautiful car back on the road in one piece!

Some of these guys have nearly all of the parts on hand to make it happen.

Let's hope one of them gets it and has it back on the road some day.

I've been out of town and missed this but I looked at the car on 3/21. Ryan described it well, it needs a lot of attention to make it nice. No exhaust, EZK, LH, flywheel, clutch, fans, radiator or engine. It looks like something spilled on the drivers front fender and took off the clearcoat, probably brake fluid. Clear coat is off the rear spoiler, small dent and scratch on the roof, also on the rear RH quarter panel. Wheels were polished. Pictures look better than the car looks in person. The interior didn't excite me as the leather was pulling a bit and I don't personally like dark blue interiors. He was thinking $7000 when I looked at it. I don't know how long it's been sitting or if there are other problems such as electrical issues. Just my observations and opinions.

This car needs to be saved. I wish i could do it but that's not in the cards. If a Rennlister buys this car I will donate a used cat, rear calipers and rotors, and air pump from my 93 GTS to the buyer! According to Rob Edwards list that's $450.00+ right there.

Who else can contribute to saving a great car?????????????????????

I have an offer to the seller but havent heard back yet. Considering what cfc928GT had just posted its a real good offer.

I still need to pick up another car up there and will likely just get 2 spots on a transporter instead of 1

Im working on it.......

I am still being tempted by it. Been going back and forth with Lloyd, he sent me a copy of the bill of sale last night. Bottom line, it will be a major PITA to get thing registered in CA. The title was surrendered to the state of WA at the insurance auction in 1/08. So I would have to ship it to CA, put an engine in it and make it driveable, then take it to WA and get it inspected by the WA state trooper's office. And I have to be there in person. Not sure whether I'd also have to get it smogged in WA at that point. And then I'd have to get it back to CA, and go through registering it as a new out of state vehicle.

Lloyd sent a bunch of new pics, so the list of needed parts has gotten longer. It'll need the dash pulled and recovered, the quarters are warped, and the pod is cobalt blue while the rest of the interior is Marine blue (?!?). Nothing that ~$2K with Paul couldn't fix. It'll also need to be repainted, brake fluid got spilled on the left front fender, both bumper covers are scratched up and there's minor bodywork to do on the RR quarter and the roof.....

So that's 3 legs of shipping, an engine, paint and interior work, and a lot of other parts, and then you have a GTS with a salvage title whose other systems have not been gone through. And the title issue makes it a major PITA for anyone who doesn't live in WA.

As I told Lloyd, I'm not really worried about the money side of things here, I'm worried about the paperwork side of things. I have the engine, the clutch, some of the electronics (all the expensive relays in the CE are missing too), and I want to rescue it. I guess the other option is to convince Lloyd to get it titled in CO, which I would happily pay the cost to do. Any of the CO guys know the laws/process on getting a title on an engineless titleless salvage car that's been in CO for more than a year and was bought out of state?

I have some calls to make tomorrow and I'll update at that point.

Rob:

Nice assessment. It sounds like you have gotten more info from Lloyd than I have been able to.

FWIW, I do not think this car will ever have the value of its pedigree. It's more a question of whether or not this roller is a cheap enough platform for someone to build a hot rod from.

$0.02
