Question PSD/Diff into S2

Hi All

I am going to fit a PSD/Diff UNIT from a 94 GTS into my 16 Valve S2....

Can anyone tell me for definite whether the PSD/Diff will have a 2.2 ratio ???

All the best Brett

No its NOT a 2.2

if its an auto then its a 2.53

I have to ask WHY? you cant run the PSD diff effectively without the PSD electronic components which would be silly to retrofit into an early car.

You must be new here.

You don't specify if the unit is from an auto or 5-speed GTS. They are different.

Hi

Yes you can, but it then becomes manually adjustable...no pump etc....

Hi

Sorry I forgot to say that mine is an Auto with a 2.35 (Non LSD) at the moment......thanks for that link ...the 94 GTS Auto had a 2.54....( I was hoping it was a 2.2)

Have to think about top speed differences now....

All the best Brett

Brett,

Garity at Motorsport SLC took the 2.2 ring/pinion from an 88 and put it in my 90 with PSD
replacing the 2.54. So it can be done.

Hi George

I might HAVE to...as if I run the 2.54 diff instead of my 2.35 , I would lose 18 mph from my top speed at 7000 revs

If I run the 2.2 ...I GAIN 16 mph at 7000....

All the best Brett

Brett,

I don't think I've got enough horsepower to get over 6,000 rpm, but that should be fast enough
for the roads I'm on, and that's a lot faster then I could go with the 2.54.

Good luck with your quest.

You might want to ask anyone if they have tried to use a PSD in a manually adjustable mode..it might save you the trouble of doing this....only to find that they don't work, very well....Mark Anderson?

I run my 84 track car with a PSD manually "locked" with a bolt; not the most effective and adjustment is very tricky, but it works.

At this point, I would hesitate to call it 'PSD'. The true PSD is a dynamic traction control device complete with accelerometers, wheel speed sensors, and a nice little processor to determine what needs to happen in the diff. I would say this is a LSD at best, with manual lockup adjustment.
